OSU TRUSTEES APPROVE 2009 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET
Ohio State's Board of Trustees on Friday (7/11) approved a $4.2 billion university operating budget for the 2009 fiscal year. The budget, for the Columbus campus only, represents a 4.9 percent increase over the last fiscal year. Although resident undergraduate tuition remains frozen at the 2006 level, the budget will continue to support key academic goals and will increase financial aid to reflect an increase in student housing costs. FOX RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL GEOSYNTHETICS SOCIETY AWARD
Patrick J. Fox, OSU professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science, received the International Geosynthetics Society Award recently for his research contributions on the static and dynamic shear strength of geosynthetic clay liners, which are manufactured clay-polymer composite products that are widely used in landfill construction. The award is the highest research achievement award in geosynthetics and is given biennially on a worldwide basis to recognize outstanding research contributions to geosynthetics engineering during the four years prior to the award. OHIO STATE TO HOST LIVESTRONG SUMMIT JULY 24-27
Volunteers are needed as Ohio State and the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute welcome champion cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to campus Thursday (7/24)-Sunday (7/27) for the LIVESTRONG Summit, a biennial event to organize, inspire and direct the efforts of current and potential leaders who care about cancer issues. PANEL DISCUSSION TO EXPLORE COMMUNITY HEALTH, VERNACULAR HEALTH SYSTEMS
The Colleges of Public Health, Medicine and Nursing have joined with the Center for Folklore Studies and the American Folklore Society to present a panel discussion from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday (7/21) in 165 Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR CONVOCATION 2008 IN SEPTEMBER
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience is seeking faculty, staff and students to fill a number of volunteer roles, from cheerers in Ohio Stadium to greeters and program distributors at St. John Arena, during Convocation 2008, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday (9/22). Volunteers are needed for two shifts: from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at St. John Arena and from 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Ohio Stadium. To volunteer, RSVP by Monday (9/8) to convocation@osu.edu. HIPAA RESEARCH AUTHORIZATION FORMS AVAILABLE IN SELECTED LANGUAGES
The HIPAA Research Authorization form is now available in the following languages: Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, Japanese, Russian, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese. The translated forms are available on the Office of Responsible Research Practices Web site at orrp.osu.edu/irb/hipaa/index.cfm. ADVERTISING DEADLINES APPROACHING FOR RESOURCE GUIDE
onCampus’ annual resource Guide is the best way for advertisers to reach Ohio State faculty, staff and graduate students. The special 60-page edition of the faculty/staff newspaper is published Thursday (9/18), with circulation of 30,000. Twenty-three percent of OSU faculty/staff report keeping the Guide all year long as a resource, and 49 percent hang on to it through autumn quarter.
