Higher education survey recognizes Ohio State as 'Great College to Work For'
Ohio State has been recognized for the second year in a row as one of the Chronicle of Higher Education's "Great Colleges to Work For." The university ranked among the top 10 large four-year universities (over 10,000 enrollment) in three categories: Overall Satisfaction with Benefits, Health Insurance and Disability Insurance. The results are based on responses from the more than 40,000 administrators, faculty and staff at the 247 institutions nationwide that completed the Chronicle survey. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. OSU Animal Sciences professor receives Honorary Scientist award from Korean government
Kichoon Lee, has received the Honorary Scientist award from the Rural Development Administration — part of the Korean Department of Agriculture. The award is presented to scientists who have provided consultation services and is based on leadership and expertise in their research area. As an Honorary Scientist, Lee will have more opportunities to develop collaborative research efforts and will serve as a consultant to the RDA or one of its constituent institutions. Online career mentoring for OSU faculty and students
The Office of Academic Affairs and the National Science Foundation Advancement of Women in Academic Science and Engineering Careers project, Comprehensive Equity at Ohio State, are partnering to launch an institutional membership with MentorNet, an online service that provides one-on-one mentoring, career counseling, and resources that are particularly useful for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Webinars offer assistance for Fulbright Scholar applicants
The Council for International Exchange of Scholars is now offering online workshops with Fulbright program experts. The online workshops, or Webinars, will be held on Wednesdays (7/15) and (7/22) at 2 p.m. EST, and will include sessions on references and reviewing application materials. The Office of International Affairs is the campus representative for the Fulbright Scholars program, and application information for grants available to use in 2010-2011 can be found at http://fulbright.osu.edu.
OSU Extension part of COSI's Farm Days
OSU Extension will play a role in educating kids and their parents about how agriculture impacts their lifestyle during COSI's Farm Days: Little Seeds, Big Tractors, from Wednesday (7/15)-Sunday (7/19) at COSI, 333 W. Broad St. Kids can test their driving skills on a pedal tractor obstacle course, milk a (fake) cow, and make a seed necklace. Visitors can also conduct a soil test, participate in a produce market, and view biodiesel and ethanol demonstrations. Big Ten Network programming includes Ohio State Day July 17
Ohio State programming on the Big Ten Network for the week of Monday (7/13) includes the regular schedule of current and past Big Ten games in various sports involving Ohio State. The American Language Program seeks conversation partners
The American Language Program (English as a Second Language) is recruiting students, faculty and staff to serve as conversation partners for international students. Conversation partners offer students studying English the chance to converse in a relaxed and non-academic atmosphere with a native English speaker. Credit Union of Ohio OSU campus branch reopens today
The Credit Union of Ohio OSU campus branch, 1660 Neil Ave. at 11th Avenue, resumes operations today (7/13) under normal business hours. Be advised that crews are still repairing sidewalks outside the branch for an undetermined period, but the branch and ATM are at full operating capacity.
