OSU Medical Center named to magazine's 'Honor Roll'
The OSU Medical Center leads the region with 10 specialties named as among the best in America in the latest U.S. News & World Report magazine and is among only 21 hospitals in the country named to the magazine’s elite Honor Roll. In this year’s rankings, published at http://www.usnews.com and in the magazine’s July 21 print issue, Ohio State’s Ross Heart Hospital is recognized as a leader in heart care, ranking 37 out of 4,861 hospitals from around the country. Shipp appointed president of the Association for Schools and Colleges of Optometry
Melvin Shipp, dean of the College of Optometry, was appointed president of the Association for Schools and Colleges of Optometry at the annual American Optometric Association meeting held recently in Washington, D.C. Shipp has been a member of the board of directors since 2004. As president, he is committed to enhancing the faculty development institutes, promoting programs focused on cultural awareness, and increasing the enrollment, retention and graduation of individuals from underrepresented populations in optometry and vision science research. RESEARCH STUDY. The OSU Division of Periodontology is conducting a study on wound healing of the gums (gingiva) of smokers. To be accepted as a volunteer participant you must: be a smoker for five or more years, 18-50 years old, in good health, have your upper (maxillary) teeth, and be available for one screening and four study visits. President’s Council on Sustainability interested in learning about your research
The President’s Council on Sustainability is interested in learning about the research faculty or staff are doing on any topic in the area of sustainability, from bioremediation and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles to sustainable agriculture and organic food. The area of study or specialty doesn’t matter — any sustainable topic is of interest to the council. The council will then compile this information and share it with the campus community.
Eye on Alumni airs on Big Ten Network
A repeat episode of Eye on Alumni will air on the Big Ten Network at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (7/21), 5 p.m. Thursday (7/23) and 8:30 a.m. Friday (7/24). This episode focuses on alumni who have "paid it forward" in their careers and their communities. Those featured include Archie Griffin, a two-time Heisman Trophy winner and president and CEO of the OSU Alumni Association; and Stefanie Spielman, a breast cancer survivor who has raised more than $5 million for breast cancer research. July 29 workshop: Managing Your Department’s Capitalized Equipment
The Controller’s Office is offering “Managing Your Department’s Capitalized Equipment” from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday (7/29) in 231 Mount Hall on West Campus. The workshop is recommended for equipment coordinators and equipment custodians. Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational Buckeye Day
The Nationwide Tour is coming to Columbus Thursday (7/30)-Sunday (8/2) at the OSU Golf Club - Scarlet Course. On Thursday (7/30), bring your BuckID to the gate for free admission and access to a viewing deck on the 13th hole exclusively for OSU faculty, staff and students. The Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational is an important stop on the tour, with a purse of $775,000 and more than $1 million raised for Central Ohio Charities since 2007. James Cancer Hospital seeking volunteer musicians
Musically talented volunteers are needed for the MusicCare program, which provides a relaxing and creative integration of live music for patients at The James Cancer Hospital. Selection criteria include but are not limited to: Previous experience performing in a hospital or nursing home setting; 18 years or older with strong interpersonal skills; and ability to determine appropriate type of music for current circumstances.
