OIT, TELR now Office of the Chief Information Officer

The Office of the Chief Information Officer has become the official name that describes the areas previously referred to as OIT (Office of Information Technology) and TELR (Technology Enhanced Learning & Research). New Ohio Eminent Scholar strengthens university’s psychology department

Ohio State continues to build on its strengths in psychology by hiring a new Ohio Eminent Scholar in Social Psychology. Jennifer Crocker comes to Ohio State from the University of Michigan, where she has been a professor of psychology since 1995. The Ohio Eminent Scholars Program was created by the Ohio General Assembly and is administered by the Ohio Board of Regents. Its goal is to enhance the national eminence of selected outstanding academic programs at Ohio universities by attracting nationally recognized scholars. The OSU Department of Psychiatry is currently enrolling for a research study, i-SPOT-D: International Study to Predict Optimized Treatment in Depression, to identify genetic, biological and psychological markers that may predict response to antidepressants and help individualize treatments. Participants must be 18-65, currently depressed and willing to take one of 3 FDA-approved antidepressants. Participation involves 2 clinic visits and 8 follow-up web-based questionnaires over 12 months. Participants get free study-related evaluation and compensation for their time. Ohio State hosts first iDream Student Challenge

 An alarm system to help save the lives of children accidentally left in vehicles, a solar thermal electric car charging station, and an assistive kayaking device are among the winning iDream Student Challenge projects recognized at the 2010 Honda Initiation Grant Technical Horizon Symposium held Thursday (7/8) at the Ohio Union. The competition included 19 teams of Ohio State science and engineering students whose projects offered creative engineering solutions and innovative technologies in one of three categories: electronics, mobility and materials. Older adults needed for research study. The Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory in the Department of Psychology will be conducting a lifestyle intervention study to modify health behaviors for individuals 60-75 years old. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus with participation lasting approximately 14 weeks. Salivary samples, MRI scanning, completing questionnaires, and attending weekly classes on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. will be required. Interested in dental implants? The Division of Periodontology in the College of Dentistry is conducting a study to learn more about wound healing around dental implants. You may be qualified if you are missing a single tooth or having a tooth scheduled for extraction on your lower back jaw. You should be at least 18 years old and a non-smoker with healthy gums and teeth. The study requires routine visits at 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 and 12 post-operative weeks. Construction alert

Lane Avenue exit to close July 12

 The northbound exit ramp from SR 315 to Lane Avenue will close today (7/12) for approximately 30 days while bridge repair work is completed. Cannon Drive to remain closed through August

Facilities Operations and Development has announced that Cannon Drive will remain closed until the end of August because of safety concerns and unforeseen conditions. FOD apologizes for the continued inconvenience. Access to Drake Union and the mid-tower parking lot will continue to be available from either the north or the south throughout this time. Antarctic Meteorology Week at the Byrd Polar Research Center

This week two international workshops on Antarctic weather and climate will be held at the Byrd Polar Research Center, 240 Scott Hall, and hosted by the Polar Meteorology Group. The Fifth Antarctic Meteorology Observation, Modeling and Forecasting Workshop will be held today (7/12)-Wednesday (7/14). Find out about the essential weather support for research trips to Antarctica that many faculty, staff and students undertake.
