NOAA HABs forecast webinar at 2 p.m. today

NOAA and partners including Ohio Sea Grant are issuing the 2016 harmful algal bloom forecast for western Lake Erie from Stone Lab, Ohio State’s island campus on Lake Erie, today (7/7). A public webinar 2-4 p.m. will explain the forecast and the science behind it, featuring Ohio State researchers. The presentations and Q&A session also will provide information on research initiatives that address the harmful algal bloom problem, such as Ohio State’s Field to Faucet Initiative and the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Harmful Algal Bloom Research Initiative.

Newark math professor presents to theoretical physicists

You’ve probably heard of theoretical physics only when Sheldon Cooper talks about it on “The Big Bang Theory.” Assistant Professor of Mathematics Niles Johnson at Ohio State Newark is conducting math research this summer that’s used by theoretical physicists. He recently presented at a workshop on algebraic topology at the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery.

Garage infrastructure work to begin today

CampusParc begins today (7/7) to upgrade power and communication equipment near the entrance and exits of campus garages. This work will further enhance the reliability of garage operations and serve as a foundation for future improvements. While the impact during the project is expected to be minimal, please anticipate occasional short-term lane restrictions. The work, part of CampusParc’s ongoing reinvestment in the Ohio State parking system, is expected to be complete by the end of September.

Woodruff Avenue to close for one week
From Saturday (7/16) to Saturday (7/23), Woodruff Avenue between High Street and Tuttle Park Place will be closed in both directions for roadway work. During this time, westbound traffic from High Street may use 18th Avenue to College Road, and eastbound traffic should use Tuttle Park Place to Annie and John Glenn Avenue.
