Gebreyes named executive director, Global One Health
Wondwossen Gebreyes, professor and director of global health for the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been appointed executive director of Ohio State’s Global One Health initiative and named to the Hazel C. Youngberg Distinguished Professorship. The initiative partners Ohio State with Ethiopian institutes to improve health, build capacity and offer learning opportunities for students. To reflect Global One Health’s university-wide impact, it will be housed under the umbrella of the Office of International Affairs and align closely with academic units, research and service units.

Ohio State No. 1 in collegiate sports social media survey
In a recent survey by social media agency Jumpwire, Ohio State athletics was rated No. 1 in a national ranking table measuring digital media success. The Buckeye athletics department, which recently turned in its best campaign in the annual Learfield Directors' Cup standings, has the largest fan base on social media with more than 3.5 million followers on numerous platforms.

Faculty and staff are needed to serve as advisors to Ohio State's 1,200-plus student organizations. Student organization advisors have the opportunity to work with student leaders and members in a variety of capacities. There are required duties negotiable between you and the student organization. You may be an advisor for as many as three student organizations.

Do you know a 7 to11-year-old child who would like to wear contact lenses? Investigators at Ohio State College of Optometry are recruiting children for a research study to determine whether a combination treatment of soft bifocal contact lenses (typically used to help people older than 40 see up close) and low dose atropine eye drops (typically used to dilate the pupil) slows the progression of nearsightedness — difficulty seeing far away. New planetarium shows on Friday nights in July
The Ohio State Planetarium presents two new shows on Friday nights in July. Astronomers will talk about “Mooning Over the Sky Tonight,” an up-close look at our moon and the moons of Jupiter, as well as “Cold Birth, Fiery Death” about exploring the lives of stars through the wonders of our night sky. Sign up for free tickets one week in advance on the planetarium website. We will be closed in August, so seize the night this month.

Shayne Piasta, College of Education and Human Ecology, wants to know if targeted intervention can keep at-risk preschoolers from falling into the achievement gap, or if preschool gains "fade out" over time. Her new study follows preschoolers and their peers through third grade.

Volunteers needed for a black raspberry nectar study
An Ohio State study is seeking smokers and non-smokers between the ages of 18-40 to participate in research examining the effect of a nectar made from black raspberries on oral bacteria. Participants will be asked to limit some specific foods and to drink six ounces of a black raspberry beverage each day for 12 weeks. Participants will meet with the study team six times at the College of Dentistry (Postle Hall) to complete questionnaires and provide samples of blood, urine and cheek cells. Volunteers may be reimbursed up to $225 and will receive a free dental cleaning at one of the visits.

11th Avenue (Worthington and Neil) to be westbound only
Beginning Tuesday (7/19) and continuing for approximately three weeks, the City of Columbus has advised that 11th Avenue, between Worthington Street and Neil Avenue, will be westbound only. Access to the 11th Avenue Garage will be maintained, accessible via east on 10th Avenue, north on Highland Avenue, and west on 11th Avenue. This is to accommodate utilities work. 9th Avenue at Neil Avenue closes, CABS rerouted
From Friday (7/22) to Tuesday (7/26), 9th Avenue west of Neil Avenue will be closed for City of Columbus roadway work. The 9th Avenue Garages will remain accessible via eastbound Medical Center Drive to eastbound 9th Avenue. Motorists should use King Avenue as detour. The Med Center Express, Campus Loop South, and Campus Loop North will also use King Avenue during this time. Visit go43210.osu.edu for more information.

Football Friday Night Lights Camp reduces stadium parking
On Friday (7/22), Football Friday Night Lights Camp at Ohio Stadium will reserve the Northeast and East Stadium lots for event vehicles and “A” and “B” permit holders only beginning at 3:30 p.m. until the end of the event. Alternate student parking is available in the West Stadium and South French Field House lots. The presentation of an event hangtag may be required for no-cost entry into lots, sold at an event rate, regardless of final destination.
