Wexner Center of the Arts ad The fiercest women of film at the Wex. Don’t Call Me Honey, the Wexner Center’s series focusing on some of the baddest women in front of and behind the camera, continues this Thursday (7/28) with a double feature: Fire, a groundbreaking Indian film and the first to depict a lesbian relationship, and Wildness, a dynamic documentary about a legendary LGBTQ bar. Buckeyes in the Reef

Australia's Great Barrier Reef is the largest living reef in the world — and because of climate change, more than half of its coral has died in the past 20 years. Ohio State students traveled to the reef for nearly a month of research, bringing back memories of an educational experience they won’t soon forget.

Roads Scholars Tour showcases community engagement in northwest Ohio

The Roads Scholars Tour, a two-day, traveling seminar that included President Michael V. Drake and Provost Bruce McPheron, took more than 50 faculty, staff and community partners to northwest Ohio on July 14-15 to tour sites where the university has key partnerships. Participants viewed first-hand the reach and impact that engaged teaching and research collaborations have on communities and residents across the state.

College of Pharmacy Installs Nanobiotechnology Expert as First Sylvan G. Frank Endowed Chair

The College of Pharmacy installed Peixuan Guo, PhD as its first ever Sylvan G. Frank Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery Systems at a July 26 ceremony at the university’s Faculty Club. Presiding over the event was President Michael V. Drake, Provost Bruce McPheron, Executive Vice President of Health Sciences Sheldon M. Retchin, and Dean and Professor Henry J. Mann. The Frank Chair is funded by a $2.5 million endowment given to the college by alumnus Chih-Ming Chen (PhD ’81), and his wife, Virginia. It honors Sylvan Frank, former professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and associate dean for Professional Programs.

Major parking, traffic, bus service impacts July 27

On Wednesday (7/27), the International Champions Cup at Ohio Stadium and the Demi Lovato/Nick Jonas concert at the Jerome Schottenstein Center will occur. Several parking areas, including those near Ohio Stadium, will be reserved for event use and unavailable to CampusParc permit holders. Presentation of an event hangtag is required for no-cost entry into lots sold at an event rate. Minimal parking availability and significant traffic delays are anticipated beginning around 3:30 p.m. Westbound Woody Hayes Drive and Cannon Drive, north of Herrick Drive, will be closed. Other roadway restrictions will be in place. Motorists should follow directions of officials in the roadway. The Campus Loop North, Campus Loop South and Buckeye Village CABS routes will suspend service at 3:30 p.m.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Workshop

Registration is now open the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Workshop for Health Professionals at the Ohio Union on September 22 and 23. Hosted by the College of Nursing’s Academy for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning (AcCELL), the two-day workshop provides an overview of important business fundamentals for anyone with an interest in starting a business—clinically-based or otherwise. Sessions include developing a business plan, pitching your ideas, raising capital and creating a marketing strategy.

Mindfulness in Motion program for cancer survivors

Mindfulness in Motion (MIM) includes a combination of guided mindfulness meditation, community sharing, gentle stretches and relaxing music to aid in stress reduction. Maryanna Klatt developed this course to reduce stress and inflammation while increasing mindfulness and sleep quality. Research results show improved resilience, sleep quality and perceived stress reduction in both cancer survivors and caregivers. Wednesdays (8/24) – (10/12) 11 a.m.- noon at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center.

The Greater Columbus Toastmasters Club meets at the Martha Morehouse Pavilion in room 1066B on Wednesday, July 27, from 7-9 p.m. Club meetings and other activities help members to develop public speaking skills in a supportive environment with constructive, practical feedback. Members also develop and practice leadership skills that can translate to other settings.
