Headline newsCOLUMBUS DISPATCH EXECUTIVE TO DELIVER COMMENCEMENT ADDRESSMichael F. Curtin, vice chair and COO of The Dispatch Printing Co. and associate
publisher of The Columbus Dispatch, will be the speaker for summer quarter
commencement on Sunday (8/26). Approximately 2,000 students will receive degrees
at the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Ohio State will award honorary degrees to David Gross, the Frederick Gluck
Professor of Theoretical Physics and director of the Kavli Institute for Theoretical
Physics at the University of California-Santa Barbara; and Orlando Taylor,
vice provost for research, dean of the Graduate School, and professor of communications
at Howard University. Receiving the Distinguished Service Award are Ted Beattie,
president and CEO of the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago; and Judith Tuckerman,
a leader in the Columbus philanthropic community. Read

STONE LAB GUEST LECTURE, OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULEDOhio State’s Stone Lab on Lake Erie concludes its annual summer Guest
Lecture Series beginning at 7:45 p.m. Thursday (8/9). Bobby Moser, OSU vice
president of Agriculture and Outreach, will discuss “Agriculture and
the Environment.” Lectures are free and open to the public. A Stone Laboratory
Open House with educational programs and tours of Gibraltar Island and South
Bass Lighthouse, followed by the Friends of Stone Laboratory annual meeting,

WALTERS TO DISCUSS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AUG. 16Tyler Walters, a leader and a visionary in utilizing emerging information technologies to enhance digital libraries, electronic resources, Web-based information services, learning commons, and change management, will lecture at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (8/16) at 090 Science & Engineering Library. Walters has played a principal role on collaborations with LC’s National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program, NSF/National Science Digital Library, the DSpace community, and others. He will discuss advances in the Georgia Tech program he has overseen, and its impact on the OSU Libraries’ program development. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR CONVOCATION 2007The Office of Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience is seeking faculty, staff and students to fill a number of volunteer roles - from greeters and program distributors at St. John Arena to cheerers in Ohio Stadium - for Convocation 2007, set for Monday (9/17).
