SERVICE CENTER PLAN AIDS MOVE TOWARD ‘ONE UNIVERSITY’
A new consolidated service center currently in the development stages will combine the most common customer service aspects of the offices of Student Financial Aid, the University Bursar, the University Registrar and Minority Affairs into one center, which eventually will be housed at the Student Academic Services building currently under construction at Lane Avenue and Tuttle Park Place. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. SENIOR POSITIONS SUBJECT TO NEW BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY
Human Resources has developed a background check policy that will take effect Monday (9/1) to ensure candidates for Ohio State’s senior leadership positions add to the talent pool. The new policy requires appointees and final candidates for president, provost, vice president, vice provost, dean, senior fiscal officer, senior human resource professional and all President’s Council members to undergo a background check by HireRight, an international company currently used by other Big Ten schools. The new policy will promote fair and consistent methods for how background checks are conducted and used. Read the full onCampus article.

OSU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL SHROUD OF TURIN CONFERENCE AUG. 14-17
Scientists, scholars and researchers from around the world will gather at Ohio State for a conference today (8/14)-Sunday (8/17) to discuss the controversial Shroud of Turin, the reputed burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth and one of the most intensely-studied artifacts in human history. The conference takes place at The Blackwell and commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Shroud of Turin Research Project group’s investigation and the 20th anniversary of the Carbon-14 (C-14) dating of the shroud. GEE TO SPEAK AT RESEARCH ON RESEARCH EVENT AUG. 21
TELR and the Digital Union invite you to the fifth Annual Research on Research (R2) Showcase from 1-3 p.m. Thursday (8/21) at the Digital Union (third floor SEL). President E. Gordon Gee will speak at 1 p.m., and electronic poster sessions will be held until 3 p.m. with closing ceremonies at 2:45 p.m. See how students and their faculty research partners have used digital media to display conventional research in unconventional ways. TELRport Island in Second Life, featuring five interactive learning projects from OSU faculty and staff, will also be displayed. The event is open to the public, no registration is required. CENTRAL E-MAIL SYSTEM MAINTENANCE THIS WEEKEND
On Sunday (8/17), between 12:01 and 3 a.m., OIT Operations will be servicing the central e-mail system for approximately 60 minutes to install a patch to upgrade the system. During the upgrade, if you access your e-mail through OSU's central system, which includes webmail, OSU POP, and IMAP, those services will not be available for 25 percent of mailbox users (75 percent will not be affected). E-mail received during the maintenance window will be delivered after the system is restored. There will be no service interruption for those who forward their lastname.#@osu.edu e-mail to another service provider for reading prior to the outage. APPLY ONLINE FOR 2008-09 PARKING PERMIT
Submit your application to purchase your 2008-09 parking permit by Wednesday (8/20) to have it mailed to your home. All applications submitted after this date will be held in the Transportation and Parking Services office, 160 Bevis Hall. A photo ID will be needed to pick up your permit. OSU EXTENSION PART OF COSI'S FARM DAYS THROUGH AUG. 17
OSU Extension will play a role in educating kids and their parents about how agriculture impacts their lifestyle during COSI's Farm Days: Little Seeds, Big Tractors, being held now through Sunday (8/17) in Columbus. COSI will display more than 25 pieces of farming equipment. Visitors can try managing their own farm and kids can test their driving skills on a pedal tractor obstacle course, milk a (fake) cow, and make a seed necklace. OSC HOSTS ADVANCED COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS WORKSHOP
The Ohio Supercomputer Center is hosting a new workshop, Advanced Topics in Computational Fluid Dynamics, from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday (8/27) and Thursday (8/28) at OSC. The two-day short course will introduce model equations of the type which frequently arise in fluid dynamics research and applications, and present a selection of methods for their numerical solution. COLLEGE OF LAW SEEKING MOCK TRIAL JURORS
Frank A. Ray, adjunct professor, Moritz College of Law is seeking faculty and staff who would be interested in being volunteer jurors for his trial class. Volunteers are needed for the simulated voir dire exercises that have been scheduled for Ray's course for Monday (8/25), Wednesday (8/27) and Wednesday (9/3).
