Spotlight on ... Department of Greek and Latin
Greek & Latin is a growing, vibrant department, which has welcomed seven new faculty during the past four years. In addition to teaching ancient Greek, modern Greek and Latin languages at all levels, its faculty offer courses and conduct research on the literatures, art, cultures, religions, epigraphy and paleography of antiquity; on Byzantine literatures and culture; and on contemporary Greek culture, politics and folklore. Books recently published by faculty members include Homer's Cosmic Fabrication, Caesar's Civil War, Ancient Greek Divination, and The Christian Parthenon.
The department is proud to count a Humanities Distinguished Professor and a Distinguished University Professor among its 15 faculty, as well as winners of the Distinguished Scholar and Distinguished Teaching Awards. The department is active in interdisciplinary endeavors: one of its members directs OSU's new Center for the Study of Religion, and two others co-direct the Center for Epigraphical and Palaeographical Studies, an international research facility.
