Ohio State climbs in latest U.S. News rankings

Ohio State has climbed in the rankings of the nation’s best public and private universities according to U.S. News & World Report. The publication’s 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges, released today (8/20), ranked Ohio State as 18th among all public universities and 53rd among all 262 national institutions rated. The rankings show steady improvement over the last five years. Ohio State has climbed from 62nd among all universities (public and private) in 2004 and 22nd among publics. OSU Extension to assist farmers with disabilities through AgrAbility program

OSU Extension has received a $720,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to assist farmers with disabilities through the national AgrAbility program (http://www.agrabilityproject.org/). Visitors to Ohio State’s Farm Science Review, to be held Tuesday (9/22)-Thursday (9/24) at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio, can stop by the Safety Education Area to learn more. Today: Annual Staff Arts and Crafts Exhibit opening reception

The Annual Staff Arts and Crafts Exhibit opening reception will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today (8/20) in Bricker Hall. The university community is invited to the opening celebration that showcases the creative, artistic talents of Ohio State staff. President Gee and OSU vice presidents will select their favorite entries and award ribbons. Staff may vote for their favorite entry, the People’s Choice Award, today (8/20)-Friday (9/11). Road work alert: College Road, 18th, 19th and Neil avenues

On Friday (8/21), the 19th Avenue loading dock areas near Haskett Hall and Fontana Labs will be closed. On Saturday (8/22), the courtyard behind Morrison Tower will be closed. The 4-H exit drive and parking will be closed Friday (8/21)-Saturday (8/22). Three Cups of Tea author, Greg Mortenson to visit campus

Greg Mortenson, co-author and subject of the New York Times #1 bestseller, Three Cups of Tea, will visit campus on Sunday (10/4) and Monday (10/5) for two presentations at 7:30 p.m. in Mershon Auditorium. The author visit is part of the Buckeye Book Community, a summer reading program for incoming first-year students. A number of seats will be reserved for faculty, staff and community members. Neil Avenue to remain closed for pavement restoration

Neil Avenue will remain closed between Tuttle Park Place and Lane Avenue for pavement restoration. Tuttle Park Place between Lane and Woodruff avenues will remain open providing access to the Blackwell and the ROTC parking lot, however, the access drive to the ROTC parking lot via Tuttle Park Place will be closed on Monday (8/24) and Tuesday (8/25). Alternate access to the ROTC parking lot is located on Lane Avenue. Deliveries, emergency vehicles and ADA parking will be maintained. All streets, including the Woodruff/Tuttle intersection, will be open to through traffic on Monday (8/31). Contact: mailto:fod_communications@osu.edu

Portuguese Individualized Instruction is a self-paced, mastery-based program of learning designed to mirror the courses offered in the classroom. Students schedule appointments with their instructors to fulfill course requirements. Appointments last 15 minutes, and are offered five days a week. Appointment times are flexible. Sept. 6 moveMMORE to benefit The James

The 2nd Annual moveMMORE Run/Walk for Multiple Myeloma Research will be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (9/6) at Fred Beekman Park. The event features music, awards and refreshments. All proceeds will benefit multiple myeloma research at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. Serious runners, casual walkers and families are welcome. MMORE is a 501(c)3 organization committed to supporting medical research that will find effective treatments and a cure for multiple myeloma.
