The Wexner Center is the premiere venue for the first U.S. retrospective of internationally known artist Luc Tuymans, one of the most influential painters working today. The more than 70 stunning works in this show span 1978 to the present and will fill the Wex galleries. Tuymans often explores historical and political topics in his muted yet powerful paintings. Spotlight on ... OARDC

Based on the Wooster campus and with operations in Columbus and 10 other locations throughout the Buckeye state, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) is the country’s largest university agricultural bioscience research center. The research arm of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, OARDC was founded in 1882 as the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station and formally merged with the university on its 100th anniversary. OARDC provides state, national and international leadership in three main signature areas that align Ohio’s highest needs with the center’s greatest strengths: Environmental Quality and Sustainability; Food Security, Production and Human Health; and Advanced Bioenergy and Biobased Products. Today: Gee, Starkoff to speak at Research on Research event

The Digital Union invites you to the sixth annual Research on Research (R2) Showcase from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. today (8/26) at the Digital Union (SEL 370). President Gee and CIO Kathleen Starkoff will give opening remarks, followed by an electronic poster session. See how students and their faculty research partners have used digital media to present research on subjects ranging from art to pharmacy, from spiders to babies. The event is open to the public, and registration is not required. Read more >

WOSU Public Media receives federal grant to fund digital media education project

WOSU Public Media is one of nine public TV stations chosen nationally to receive a Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant to create content on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects. CPB’s Digital Media Resources Production Grant program will fund content on science subjects that are often difficult to teach and learn, with this initial funding round focused on climate literacy for middle school children. WOSU’s grant will be used to fund “What Ice Cores Reveal About Climate.” The content generated will be shared among public broadcasting stations and educational organizations. Sept. 2 open forum to introduce candidate for director of University Libraries

The search committee for the director of University Libraries will host an open forum to introduce faculty, staff and students to Carol Diedrichs, a candidate for the position, from 3-4:15 p.m. Wednesday (9/2) in the West Reading Room of the newly renovated Thompson Library. Diedrichs has been dean of libraries at the University of Kentucky since 2003, and was assistant director for technology services and collections at Ohio State from 2000-2003. College Road, 18th, 19th and Neil pavement removal and replacement work

The 19th Avenue loading dock area, 4-H exit drive and the Morrison Tower paving should be completed by today (8/26). Night time work (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) began Tuesday (8/25) and will continue through Monday (8/31) evening. Work will progress from 18th Avenue to Neil Avenue (from 17th-19th) to 19th Avenue to College Road. Pavement marking will follow during the daytime hours beginning Monday (8/31). Aug. 27: Trakas to discuss Eco Bags at OSU Urban Arts Space

Join artisan Marcia Trakas at the OSU Urban Arts Space from 6-7 p.m. Thursday (8/27) and learn about keeping plastic grocery bags out of the landfill by transforming them into colorful and sturdy handbags. OSU, Naval Academy Alumni Associations to host pep rally Sept. 5

The Alumni Associations for Ohio State and the Naval Academy are teaming up to host a pep rally prior to the Buckeyes game against the Midshipmen on Saturday (9/5). The Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, the Middies' cheerleaders and 500 Midshipmen will join President E. Gordon Gee, Alumni Association President Archie Griffin, the Ohio State cheerleaders and more for this collaborative pep rally, from 8:30-10 a.m. on the Fawcett Center lawn. Vanpooling opportunities available through MORPC RideSolutions

OSU employees are invited to join a vanpool group and pay an affordable monthly fee covering use of the van, insurance, maintenance, parking and fuel. Openings to the OSU main campus and the hospital exist from Lancaster, Canal Winchester and Newark for those working 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays. Vanpool groups are forming from: Springfield, Lewis Center/Delaware, Mansfield, Pickerington, Circleville, Marysville, Morrow County/Marengo, and Dublin. OSU Statistics expanding consulting for graduate students

The Statistical Consulting Service is increasing its capacity for graduate student consulting fall quarter. Students working on dissertations or master’s theses who would like statistical help are invited to sign up for 15 hours of consulting from a grad student consultant in the statistics department. Bulk refuse collection in University District starts today

The City of Columbus Division of Refuse Collection will conduct its 13th annual special collection of bulk refuse in the University District today (8/26)-Friday (9/11). This special collection is done in conjunction with the annual move-out and move-in of students to prevent the alleys and refuse containers from being filled with used furniture and other bulk items. All bulk refuse must be taken to one of 11 drop-off sites. If you can’t take bulk items to the drop-off sites, contact the city’s Call Center at 645-3111 to schedule bulk pick-up, or visit http:/www.311.columbus.gov.
