Grant to develop and strengthen health-related disability programs
Ohio State's Nisonger Center and the Ohio Department of Health were recently awarded a $900,000 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to promote health, prevent chronic disease, and increase the quality of life among people with disabilities. Susan Havercamp, director of health promotion and health care parity at the Nisonger Center, is principal investigator. The partnership also involves the University of Cincinnati Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

Wexner Medical Center among 'Most Wired' hospitals
The Wexner Medical Center has been recognized as one of the nation's Most Wired hospitals, according to the 2012 Health Care's Most Wired Survey, published in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. More than 660 U.S. hospitals and health care organizations participated in the annual survey and 215 received the designation based on evaluations in: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration. Type 2 Diabetes Study. The Department of Family Medicine is conducting a research study for people with Type 2 Diabetes who are currently taking Insulin, alone or in combination with other diabetic medications. The study lasts approximately 7 months and includes 9 clinic visits. Changing human behavior to save the environment, Aug. 3-5
The Behavior Change for a Sustainable World conference, Friday (8/3)-Sunday (8/5) at the Ohio Union, brings together experts from across the world to explore practical and effective approaches to increasing environmentally friendly behavior through education, business, government and faith-based communities. Speakers include Ohio State climatologist Lonnie Thompson and Nature Conservancy chief scientist Peter Kareiva. Walk-in registration.

Construction/traffic alert
Lane shifts, detours scheduled
- Week of July 30: Woody Hayes, Tuttle Park Place, Cannon, Ives. Final paving will necessitate lane shifts. Woody Hayes & Cannon intersection will open upon completion of work on Cannon (est. Aug. 10).
- Aug 2-6 - Millikin: The north half of Millikin and 17th Ave. intersection will block vehicular access to McCracken, Central Service, Dreese, Baker Systems. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained.
- Aug 3-8 - Ackerman, Defiance Drive: Columbia Gas has scheduled work at Ackerman and Defiance. Traffic will be maintained on Ackerman, with lane changes. A Defiance Drive detour will be in place August 3-8.

Stone Lab summer lecture series continues Thursday
Stone Lab, Ohio State's island campus on Lake Erie, continues its summer lecture series Thursday (8/2) from 7:45-9 p.m. with Cameron Davis, senior advisor to the administrator (Great Lakes) of the U.S. EPA. Philip Xie, associate professor and director of the School of Human Movement, Sport, & Leisure Studies at Bowling Green State University, will discuss current research at 7 p.m. To view the lectures via a live web seminar, contact stonelab@osu.edu. Bell National Resource Center's Early Arrival Program
The Todd A. Bell National Resource Center on the African American Male is hosting its 8th Annual Early Arrival Program for new incoming first year students from Thursday (8/16)-Saturday (8/18). Students develop peer relationships, attend workshops about the transition from high school to college, and interact with upperclassmen, graduate students, faculty, and staff. Students who participate in this program have a higher rate of first year retention than their peers.

STRS-Preparing to Retire workshop Aug. 7
Are you a faculty member who is ready to retire but have questions on the process? Reps from State Teachers Retirement System and Human Resources will outline the retirement process and steps you need to take in order to apply for your retirement, on Tuesday (8/7) from noon-1 p.m. This is a general session for all faculty. Specific retirement questions can only be answered by STRS if you call them directly to request a retirement estimation.
