River transformation set to begin

A first step in the implementation of one of the defining recommendations of the One University Framework Plan, transforming the Olentangy River corridor through our campus, will begin later this week when the city of Columbus mobilizes to remove the Fifth Avenue Dam in the Olentangy River. The city has notified Ohio State that work may ramp up quickly and could include the first phase of the dam removal by Friday (8/10).

Type 2 Diabetes Study. The Department of Family Medicine is conducting a research study for people with Type 2 Diabetes who are currently taking Insulin, alone or in combination with other diabetic medications. The study lasts approximately 7 months and includes 9 clinic visits. Great Recession caused more young adults to live with parents

 Zhenchao Qian, professor and chair, Department of Sociology, is author of a new research brief finding that the number of young adults ages 20 to 34 who lived with their parents jumped from 17 percent in 1980 to 24 percent, between 2007-2009, due to delays in marriage and most of all, the Great Recession, which led to economic and personal instability for America's 20-to-34-year-olds.

Faculty and staff mentors sought for Metro High School interns

Metro Early College High School, on west campus, is looking for partnerships with faculty and staff interested in "giving back" to their profession through Metro's Internship Program. Metro juniors and seniors receive internship placements with mentors who guide them as they assist in real-world work.

College announces new pilot funding grant program

The leadership of the College of Medicine is dedicated to the success of independent faculty research programs. To enable development of novel research ideas, the COM offers a new Pilot Funding Grant program. The goal of this program is to provide sufficient research support to generate pilot data for extramural grant application(s), specifically funding with full indirect costs. This program will enable successful scientists to broaden their research portfolio, striking out in new directions beyond current research.

Let's Play Sports Open House Aug. 15

Have your child sample a variety of sports at the Let's Play Sports Open House on Wednesday (8/15) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the RPAC. Levels range from preschool/introductory, beginner, intermediate, and advanced for ages 5-14. The event offers mini-clinics of basketball, volleyball, soccer, kick, catch, throw, football, tennis, golf, yoga, aikido, and dance. Classes last 25 minutes and are held every half hour.

Community engagement grand rounds open to public

Primary care physicians, pediatricians, and otolaryngologists from the Wexner Medical Center and the central Ohio area are invited to attend a special grand rounds devoted to community engagement on Saturday (8/25) from 8:30-10:30 a.m. (note new time), in 3000 OSU Eye and Ear Institute, 915 Olentangy River Road. Topics include: What's New in Food Allergies, Atopic Disease and the Elderly, and What An Otolaryngologist Really Needs to Know About Asthma. No registration or fee required.
