Gaudi appointed JPL Distinguished Visiting Scientist
B. Scott Gaudi, professor of astronomy, has accepted a two-year appointment as Distinguished Visiting Scientist at Cal Tech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The purpose of JPL’s Distinguished Visiting Scientist Program is to bring in leading scientists from around the country who they believe will enrich their program. The appointment began Monday (8/4).

Hutzel awarded Fulbright Specialist Grant
Karen Hutzel, associate professor in the Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy at Ohio State, has been awarded a Fulbright Specialist Grant. Hutzel will be affiliated with the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica, where she will support the development of online courses and programs. Her work will include faculty training, capacity building, evaluation of online course initiatives and the development of the college’s first online master of arts education degree.

Who’s Who in Black Columbus ceremony
Nearly 60 Ohio State faculty, staff and students are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in the 12th edition of Who’s Who in Black Columbus. The cover unveiling ceremony took place in the Archie Griffin Grand Ballroom at the Ohio Union on Tuesday (7/29). Ohio State to host ScienceWriters2014
About 500 science writers from around the country will be on campus Friday (10/17)-Tuesday (10/21) to attend ScienceWriters2014, the combined annual meeting of two science writing organizations. Registration opens Friday (8/15) for the meeting, which is expected to attract writers from major broadcast networks and media outlets. The writers will attend professional development sessions and hear talks from prominent scientists – including more than a dozen from Ohio State. The writers will also tour several Ohio State research labs.

Big IDEAs for Health is back for FY2015
Big IDEAS for Health is an event for innovators, entrepreneurs and investors to come together to foster new healthcare innovations. Judges will select three healthcare innovations to be presented at each quarterly session, and will select one concept from each session to be eligible for one year-end cash prize of $10,000. Today: Volunteer training for MingoMan Triathlon
Volunteer at the MingoMan Triathlon on Sunday (8/17) at Delaware State Park. This event benefits the Cardiac Rehabilitation Access Fund at Ohio State. Volunteers will need to arrive by 6:30 a.m. and will be finished at 9 a.m. Volunteer training will be held today (8/11) from 7-8 p.m. at the main branch of the Delaware Library. All volunteers will receive a free race t-shirt and access to the post-race food at Mingo Park in Delaware.
