Headline newsU.S. DOT, OSU PARTNER TO IMPROVE BORDER TRAFFIC FLOWAn Ohio State-led research team has been awarded a two-year, $1.3 million
grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to create the Consortium for
Remote Sensing of Traffic Activities. The consortium team will investigate
ways to use sensors and airborne imagery to develop, validate and feed traffic
models and suggest alternative travel strategies for trucks to reduce the time
it takes to cross the Michigan-Canada and Arizona-Mexico borders, while ensuring
security, especially under conditions of increased truck demand or increased

RECYCLING PROGRAM TAKES OFF IN THE ‘SHOE, TAILGATING LOTSThis fall, recycling is coming to Ohio Stadium and surrounding tailgating
lots. With help from a $31,900 College and University Recycling and Waste Reduction
Program grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Business and Finance’s
Facilities Operations and Development is partnering with Athletics to institute
the new program as part of the university’s recycling initiative. During
seven home games an estimated 16 tons is expected to be diverted from landfill.
Since the university’s recycling initiative began with a nine-building
pilot program in November 2006, more than 61 tons of recycling has been diverted

from noon-5 p.m. Sunday (9/9) at the OSU School of Music. The local Yamaha
dealer, Henderson Music Company has made special arrangements for financing,
delivery and warranty service. Additional new and used pianos also are available.
