Headline newsOHIO STATE A TOP DESTINATION FOR FIRST-GENERATION STUDENTSAmong the first-year students who plan to attend Ohio State this autumn, nearly
one quarter are expected to be "first generation," or first in their
family to graduate from college. The figure far exceeds the national average
of 15.9 percent. These first-generation students, who begin autumn quarter
on Wednesday (9/19), will be part of what is expected to be the best and brightest
class in Ohio State's history. Interim president Joseph Alutto, a first-generation
scholar himself, says Ohio State is a top school for first-generation students

CAMP NAMED AMONG NATION’S TOP ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROFESSORSS. Michael Camp, academic director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the
Fisher College of Business has been named one of the nation’s top entrepreneurship
professors by FORTUNE Small Business magazine. Camp and 17 other professors
were recognized as the nation’s best through a survey of colleagues,
students and entrepreneurs in the magazine’s first compilation of America’s
Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs. The magazine commended Camp’s efforts
that led to the creation of the Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization
Academy, an interdisciplinary program that teaches graduate students to assess

OHIO STATE FACULTY MEMBER NAMED FARM FOUNDATION FELLOWFarm Foundation recently named Neal Hooker, OSU associate professor of agricultural,
environmental, and development economics, as one of two new fellows. Hooker
will focus his work with the foundation on consumer issues. Farm Foundation
works as a catalyst on economic and public policy issues impacting agriculture,
the food system and rural communities. The fellowships are three-year, part-time
assignments. For details about the Farm Foundation, see www.farmfoundation.org/. OPERS RETIREMENT FORUM RESCHEDULED FOR TODAYHuman Resources and Ohio Public Employees Retirement System are offering an
on-campus forum from noon-1 p.m. today (9/13) in 400AB Prior Health Sciences
Library in an ongoing effort to educate and help eligible staff with their
decisions regarding available retirement choices under OPERS. The seminar is
designed for staff who have been at the university for less than 180 days.

More > PLAN AHEAD TO AVOID STUDENT MOVE-IN TRAFFIC TODAY, SEPT. 16Faculty and staff should be aware that traffic and parking on campus will
be severely restricted on Sunday (9/16), when approximately 5,000 students
move into residence halls. Plan to avoid being on campus that day if possible.
There also will be traffic congestion in residence hall areas during the afternoon
and evening today (9/13), when about 1,200 Ohio State Welcome Leaders

for a guest artist performance at 4 p.m. Sunday (9/16) in Weigel Auditorium.
A multi-award winning soprano, Rolwing will be accompanied by Lloyd Arriola
on piano. The free concert will include songs and arias of Richard Strauss,

The program is also looking for substitute tutors for one hour each week, to fill in when a permanent tutor is not available. Transportation is provided to and from the school. Read More > VETERINARY COLLEGE HOSTS PUPPY CLASSESThe OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is offering puppy socialization classes
for puppies age 8-16 weeks and their owners. Puppy Kindergarten serves to socialize
new puppies so that they may learn to handle stress and new situations well
as an adult and provides owner education in all aspects of canine development
and behavior problem prevention and resolution. Weekly classes begin at 6:30
p.m. Thursday (9/20). OSU employees and students receive a $10 discount on
the six-week course (regularly $100). Registration and fees to reserve a spot
