BART TACKLES PROPER UNIVERSITY RESPONSE TO BIAS-BASED INCIDENTS

Incidents such as racist letters sent in the mail, graffiti on dorm walls, and the use of racist slurs have led to the creation of the Bias Assessment Response Team, a task force developed to change the way hate crimes and bias incidents are reported at the university. Co-chaired by Georgina Dodge, assistant vice provost for Minority Affairs, and Rebecca Nelson, assistant vice president for Student Affairs and director of the Multicultural Center, BART is designed not as a policing body but as a vehicle for changing the campus climate. KAUFMAN NAMED ASSOCIATE DEAN OF SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

Robert Kaufman, professor of Sociology, has been named associate dean in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Kaufman has been an OSU faculty member since 1985, and served as chair of the department of Sociology from 2002-06 and the department’s director of Graduate Studies from 1989-92. He has won awards for his research and his teaching and mentoring and most recently, he received a grant from the National Science Foundation to increase the diversity of Ph.D students in SBS.

SUPER (HEALTH) SCREENING DAY IS SEPT. 26

The Wellness Program will host a Super Screening Day, from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday (9/26) in the Mershon Auditorium lobby, as a last chance to get a free campus health screening before the 2007 Your Plan for Health Incentive Program concludes Sunday (9/30). The screening values - measuring blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, height and weight - can be used to complete the Personal Health Assessment online questionnaire, which will earn participants 50 points toward the incentive reward. Register online (click on Assessing Your Health Risks.) Assistance will be available at the event to help you establish your PatientLink account for the PHA. Those unable to schedule a screening appointment online should call Human Resources at 292-1050.

BIG TEN NETWORK TO FEATURE BUCKEYE BULLET 2 TONIGHT

The Big Ten Network will be airing a segment on the Buckeye Bullet 2 team from 8-10 p.m. today (9/21) on the program Friday Night Tailgate. The Office of International Affairs is the OSU administrator for the U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Grants for the development and improvement of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United States. DOCTORAL DISSERTATION RESEARCH AWARDS AVAILABLE

The Office of International Affairs administers the U.S. Department of Education's Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad program for advanced graduate students studying modern foreign languages and area studies. Eligibility is restricted to students who possess the requisite language skills for the dissertation project, and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. REGISTER FOR OSU DISTANCE LEARNING CONFERENCE

Distance Learning 2007, sponsored by the OSU Distance Learning Community and TELR will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Friday (10/12) in the new PAES Building. FTAD HOSTS COLLEGE TEACHING SERIES EVENTS

Throughout the year, Faculty and TA Development facilitates workshops, forums and seminars on a variety of issues concerning college teaching and learning. 2007 MIDWEST CARBOHYDRATE AND GLYCOBIOLOGY SYMPOSIUM

Peng George Wang, professor of Biochemistry and Chemistry and Ohio Eminent Scholar will be hosting the 2007 Midwest Carbohydrate and Glycobiology Symposium at Ohio State Friday (10/5)-Saturday (10/6). Researchers will present their newest research findings in a series of poster sessions, oral presentations and invited lectures on Friday evening and all day Saturday. A fall workshop series, Preparing for Partnership is being offered to enhance partnership skills and prepare participants to submit proposals for outreach and engagement grants. DUMP AND RUN YARD SALE TODAY

Students For Recycling is holding the fourth annual Dump & Run Yard Sale from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today (9/21) in the Jesse Owens North Rec Center. Visitors will find all types of clothing and accessories, electronics, appliances, furniture, bedding, toys, and much more at low-cost, yard sale prices.
