INITIAL RESULTS FROM FACULTY AND STAFF CULTURE SURVEY AVAILABLE

The faculty and staff culture surveys from earlier this year had strong response rates: 52 percent of staff and 46 percent of tenured/tenure track faculty completed them. One major survey finding is that, for both faculty and staff, immediate work environment has the greatest impact on satisfaction and commitment. President E. Gordon Gee would like to thank all of those who participated in the surveys and invites all faculty and staff to read about more of the major findings and view overall responses at hr.osu.edu/culturesurvey.

NIH AWARDS $4.6 MILLION TO EXPAND GLOBAL HEALTH NETWORK

The Fogarty International Center, part of the National Institutes of Health will award $4.6 million over three years to expand its network of global health education programs to include 12 additional campuses in the United States, China and Mexico. Ohio State is among those sites and will receive approximately $400,000 over three years through the Framework Programs for Global Health. OSU's program will include global health courses for college-preparatory students, a minor in global health for undergraduates and an interdisciplinary specialization for graduate students. HAMILTON HONORED WITH $250,000 HEINZ AWARD

Ann Hamilton, OSU professor of art and one of contemporary art’s most influential voices, has been selected to receive the 14th annual Heinz Award for the Arts and Humanities, among the largest individual achievement prizes in the world. A provocative visual artist whose installations around the world have woven a broad palette of media into engaging sensory environments, Hamilton is among five distinguished Americans selected to receive one of the $250,000 awards, presented by the Heinz Family Foundation. UNIVERSITY TRUSTEES TO MEET SEPT. 18-19

Ohio State's Board of Trustees and its committees will meet today (9/18) and Friday (9/19) at the Longaberger Alumni House. All committee meetings will occur today (9/18). The Audit and Compliance Committee and Committee on Trusteeship will meet from 12:30-2 p.m.; Medical Center Affairs from 2:15-3:45 p.m.; Development and Investment from 2:15-3:15 p.m.; Academic Affairs and Student Life from 4-5 p.m.; and Fiscal Affairs from 4-5:30 p.m. On Friday (9/19), the formal board meeting will convene at 8:30 a.m. and recess into executive session. OHIO STATE ALUMNI TO RECEIVE HONORS

The OSU Alumni Association will present 16 awards at its 50th annual recognition banquet Friday (9/26) at the Hyatt Regency, 350 N. High St. The 2008 Alumni Medalist is William G. Lowrie (B.S. Chemical Engineering, 1966), a former president of Amoco Corp. who has played a major role in increasing oil recovery and advancing drilling technology. Read about all the award winners. RECEIVED A SUSPICIOUS E-MAIL? CHECK THE OIT SYSTEMS STATUS PAGE

Recently, a number of e-mails have been circulating from sources claiming to be from the Ohio State Technical Support (support@osu.edu) or Exciting Upgrade To OSU E-mail Accounts. The e-mails ask people to submit their osu.edu e-mail account information and password, sometimes along with personal information such as a birth date. These messages are not from OIT; they are phishing attempts. You should never reply to these e-mails and never give your password to anyone. Unsure about whether the e-mail is legitimate? FOREIGN LANGUAGE CENTER HOSTS LANGFEST 2008 SEPT. 22

The Foreign Language Center is hosting its annual Langfest event from noon-3 p.m. Monday (9/22) in and around Hagerty Hall, in the World Media and Culture Center. Enjoy international dishes, live entertainment, dancing and music presented by representatives from the more than 30 languages offered at OSU, as well as international satellite broadcasts in 12 languages. AGE APPROPRIATE ADVICE FOR TALKING ABOUT SEX WITH YOUR KIDS

Lissa Barker, associate professor in the College of Nursing, will facilitate a discussion, Age Appropriate Advice For Talking About Sex With Your Kids, from noon-1 p.m. Thursday (9/25) in Newton Hall. The workshop is geared toward teaching parents when and what to share with kids at a variety of ages so that they will be ready with the facts when approached or “educated” by their peers. Register online. Working Mothers Support Network provides a monthly brown-bag lunch venue for OSU women students, staff and faculty.

SEPT. 20: BE A PART OF BIG TEN NETWORK GAME DAY SET

Buckeye fans are invited to participate as a member of the live audience for Big Ten Football Saturday prior to Ohio State’s game vs. Troy, to be televised on the Big Ten Network at noon Saturday (9/20)). The game day set will be located outside of Ohio Stadium. AC/DC CONCERT AT VALUE CITY ARENA NOV. 21

AC/DC will perform at Value City Arena at 7:30 p.m. Friday (11/21).
