Headline news

Milky Way probably not doomed to be destroyed by galactic bombardment

As scientists attempt to learn more about how galaxies evolve, an open question has been whether collisions with our dwarf galactic neighbors will one day tear apart the disk of the Milky Way. That grisly fate is unlikely, suggests a new study conducted by OSU astronomer Stelios Kazantzidis and his colleagues, who performed detailed computer simulations of galaxy formation to determine what would happen if a satellite galaxy — such as the Large Magellanic Cloud and its associated dark matter — collided with a spiral galaxy such as our own. 2009 football parking information; plan for delays

Construction on State Route 315 will cause traffic delays that are expected to be even more severe after OSU home football games than before. Fans leaving the games – especially the Saturday (9/12) night game vs. USC – could find it takes twice as long to exit campus as in the past. To avoid campus football traffic, there are several alternatives to parking on central campus, including a new Park and Ride option at the City Center Garage and free bus service from west campus. View more alternatives and additional football parking information at http://www.osu.edu/news/newsitem2511. A color-coded map is available at http://tp.osu.edu/Maps/FootballParkingMap.pdf.
