Extension educator, Navy reservist receives Bronze Star
Navy reservist Glenn Welling, director of the Hamilton County office of OSU Extension before he left for active duty, received the Bronze Star during a pre-game ceremony at the Ohio State-Navy football game on Saturday (9/5) in Ohio Stadium. The honor was announced during a press conference on Friday (9/4) hosted by Gov. Ted Strickland, OSU President E. Gordon Gee, and Vice Admiral Jeffrey Fowler, superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, at the governor's Statehouse Office. Read more:

President Gee to host faculty on two-day road trip Sept. 9 and 10
OSU President E. Gordon Gee will take new faculty and administrative leaders on a two-day road trip across northwest Ohio on Wednesday (9/9) and Thursday (9/10). This year’s Roads Scholars Tour will feature collaborative projects in which faculty, staff and students are engaged with area businesses and non-profit organizations. The tour includes visits to the Xunlight/Wright Center for Photovoltaics in Toledo and Wyandot Solar in Upper Sandusky, to highlight how the emerging solar energy industry will affect Ohio's economic and job creation future. Climate change panel scheduled for Farm Science Review
The impacts of cap and trade legislation and climate change on the Ohio agriculture industry will be the focus of an expert panel discussion during the Farm Science Review, Tuesday (9/22)-Thursday (9/24) at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio. “Climate Change – Economics and Policy,” will take place from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday (9/22) in the Tobin Building on the exhibit grounds. OSU panelists include Brent Sohngen and Tim Haab, both with the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics; Ohio State trade economist Ian Sheldon will moderate the discussion. Sept. 9: Learn about OSU master space plan and Medical Center’s expansion plans
Faculty and staff are invited to learn about the new comprehensive university master space plan called One Ohio State Framework and how it aligns with the Medical Center expansion plans, called ProjectONE, from 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday (9/9) in the West Reading Room of the Thompson Library (room 260). Join senior administrators from the Medical Center and the university for the presentation, and learn about the university’s plans and view the Medical Center’s new critical care tower, cancer hospital and new patient and visitor amenities planned for the buildings. OIT noncredit statistical IT training available
OIT is offering noncredit statistical training at no charge to you. SPSS is a three day hands-on course that focuses on easy ways to do statistical analysis in the Windows environment; prior experience with Windows is recommended. SAS is a three day hands-on course that covers the data steps (reading, writing, and subsetting files, plus creating new variables and merging files); working with missing values; and finding and correcting common SAS program errors. SAS experience is not necessary.

Also, read an obit for longtime OSU professor E. Leonard Jossem, who died recently at the OSU Hospital. The bulletin board is available to all OSU faculty and staff.
