Faculty, staff and students can get help connecting to Ohio State's wireless network, diagnosing a sluggish computer, addressing virus problems or answering questions about IT. The IT Service Desk, which provides support for e-mail and wireless accounts, cellular phones, site-licensed software, identity maintenance, classroom services support, and bill payments for OIT services, will remain at 025 Central Classroom Building. Geographical Society recognizes Lal for work on climate change, food security

 An Ohio State soil scientist has been recognized by a geographical organization for his role in land restoration as it relates to climate change and food security. Rattan Lal, a professor with the School of Environment and Natural Resources, has received the Commission on Land Degradation and Desertification Distinguished Scholar Award from the International Geographical Union. Lal recently accepted the award at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research in Magdeburg, Germany. Read more:

Beatty recognized with Community Champions Award

 Joyce Beatty, senior vice president of Outreach and Engagement at Ohio State, is among eight community heroes recognized recently at Molina Healthcare of Ohio's first annual Community Champions Awards. Beatty, a former Ohio House Democratic Leader, was recognized in the Advocacy and Civic Leader category. As a legislator, she secured state funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings for working women without health insurance and co-wrote the Ohio law requiring insurance providers to cover routine costs for cancer patients enrolling in clinical trials. As a stroke survivor, Beatty served as a national spokeswoman for the American Heart Association.

First phase of SR 315 construction project to be completed ahead of schedule

Favorable weather and an aggressive construction schedule has allowed the contractor to complete this year's SR 315 project two weeks earlier than planned — wrapping up Thursday (10/1) instead of Tuesday (10/13). At 8 p.m. Friday (9/25) crews will begin switching traffic on SR 315 north on to the new roadway. By 5 a.m. Saturday (9/26), two of the three lanes on SR 315 north will be maintained. The Medical Center Drive and Ackerman Road exit ramps will be open. (Medical Center Drive exit closes during home football games.)

The following entrance ramps will be open by 5 a.m. Saturday (9/26): Goodale Boulevard, Olentangy River Road and Lane Avenue. The I-670 East to SR 315 north entrance ramp will be closed until mid week when all three lanes of SR 315 north are opened. Read more: http://www.buckeyetraffic.org/315

Registration for Hit the Road with the Buckeyes closes today

To participate in the 2009 Hit the Road with the Buckeyes challenge, you must register your team of up to five OSU faculty and staff members by 11:59 p.m. today (9/23). Upon registration, your team will receive a kickoff kit, which includes a commemorative T-shirt, a water bottle and a pedometer. Registering is easy – just gather each member’s employee ID number and T-shirt size, and go to http://www.hr.osu.edu/HitTheRoad/Teams.

Sept. 24: E.F. Hebner artist’s reception at OSU Urban Arts Space

Celebrate the work of E.F. Hebner, OSU Professor Emeritus, during the OSU Urban Art Space artist’s reception from 7-9 p.m. Thursday (9/24). “excerpts…2009” represents 50 years of art making, with paintings steeped heavily in a personal history of design, painting and performance collaboration. Free technology workshops at the Digital Union

The Digital Union autumn workshop series begins on Monday (9/28) with Green Grading: Digital Tools for Assessment and Feedback. The series continues with hands-on introductory sessions on lecture capture software, teaching online, games for learning, CarmenWiki, and more. KL2 Career Development Program letter of intent due Oct. 1

The OSU Center for Clinical and Translational Science is seeking applicants for the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award KL2 Career Development Program. The goal of the program is to help ensure that a diverse pool of highly trained scientists are available to address the nation’s biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs. Annual OSU Equine Program Open House Oct. 3

The third annual OSU Equine Program Open House is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (10/3) at the OSU Equine Facility, 3658 Kays Road (off of Sawmill Road in Dublin). Lectures and demonstrations will be presented on a variety of equine topics including first aid kits for horses, equine insurance, equine nutrition, facility planning and more. MotivatEd: How to Use Eating Disorder Research to Move

The College of Social Work is sponsoring "MotivatEd: How to Use Eating Disorder Research to Move," from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Monday (10/5) at 115 Stillman Hall. The presentation will explore the diagnostic descriptions and diagnostic inadequacies of eating disorders, cutting edge neuro-biological research on eating disorders, and treatment applications based on neuro-biological research and an interactional etiology model.
