Climate expert named to head Ohio State’s Byrd Center

 Ellen Mosley-Thompson, an acclaimed polar scientist and University Distinguished Scholar in geography at Ohio State, has been named the next director of the institution’s Byrd Polar Research Center. Mosley-Thompson, who along with her husband and research partner Lonnie Thompson, is considered one of the world’s leading experts on paleoclimatology, the study of ancient climates. Their work on ice cores retrieved from glaciers and ice caps on at least five continents has provided the clearest evidence to date of global climate change and the effects humans have had on it. College of Law hosts Status of Health Care in America panel

A panel of professionals will discuss the state of current health care reform in America, including the impact of recent and proposed legislation on health care providers, at noon Monday (9/28) in Drinko Hall’s Saxbe Auditorium. Panelists include representatives from the Ohio State Medical Association, OSU College of Medicine, Health Policy Institute of Ohio, Health Sciences Research, and Voices for Children. Oct. 9 symposium to illustrate the diversity of agricultural law

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Paul Pfeifer and Federal Judge Gregory Frost are among the speakers as Ohio State hosts the second annual Ohio Agricultural Law Symposium on Friday (10/9) at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center. The event is a joint project of OSU Extension’s Agricultural and Resource Law Program and the Ohio State Bar Association. Student scholarships to attend are available through OSU’s Paul L. IRB process information sessions Oct. 2, Nov. 13

Students and other research staff are encouraged to attend an information session on the IRB approval and exemption processes on Friday (10/2) or Friday (11/13), from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in 020 Page Hall. The sessions will include information about the types of studies that require IRB approval or can qualify for exemption, details about procedures and timelines for seeking approvals, and an opportunity to ask questions about specific projects.
