Ohio State kicks off year-long 'Conversation on Immigration'
Last year, President Gee called on Ohio State to be a leader in civil discourse, encouraging conversations on the most important and thorny topics of our times. The result? A series of year-long, university-wide events called "Conversations on Morality, Politics, and Society." The series begins with a conversation on immigration, which will include everything from an interdisciplinary conference to the required book selection for the incoming class of 2011. Filmmaker Ken Burns visits campus Thursday (9/22) and draws unexpected parallels between prohibition and immigration in his upcoming PBS documentary (premiering Oct. 2 on WOSU).

Gov. Kasich, President Gee to attend Farm Science Review today
Ohio Gov. John Kasich will attend Ohio State's Farm Science Review today (9/20), for the Vice President's Luncheon, and President Gee will offer remarks during the luncheon. In addition, Farm Science Review Hall of Fame inductees will be honored. Farm Science Review, Ohio's premiere farm show, is taking place today (9/20)-Thursday (9/22) at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London, Ohio. OSU Vice President for Agricultural Administration Bobby Moser hosts the annual luncheon as part of the FSR kick-off activities.

Ohio Governor's 21st Century Energy and Economic Summit
Gov. John Kasich is bringing together a diverse group of leaders to discuss the future of Ohio's energy policy at the Ohio Governor's 21st Century Energy and Economic Summit, to be held Wednesday (9/21)-Thursday (9/22) in the Ohio Union. The summit will lay the foundation for a comprehensive Energy and Economic Development Policy that will allow Ohio's substantial assets to propel the state's long-term economic growth and job creation. Kasich will offer closing remarks and talk about his vision for the next steps in shaping Ohio's Energy Policy. Board of Education approves Kirwan Institute School Diversity Policy recommendations
On Tuesday (9/13), the Ohio Board of Education unanimously approved adoption of policy recommendations for Ohio School districts developed in conjunction with the Kirwan Institute over a two year period. The recommendations are designed to facilitate student diversity and reduce racial isolation within the parameters of the law.

Share the Road - Ohio State web site now available
The Share the Road web site is now live at www.sharetheroad.osu.edu. The site includes information and safety tips for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists, and links to partnerships and programs, such as BikeOSU and Ohio State Students for Pedestrian Safety. Share the Road - Ohio State is an educational initiative to promote safe behaviors among students, faculty, staff and visitors moving around campus and raise awareness of the university efforts to provide a safe environment for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

Ohio State is protecting its users with enhanced password standards. A secure password is lengthy, includes a combination of letters, numbers and special characters, and does not have a dictionary word. Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts, or recycling passwords you've used before. Fiscal Aspects of Human Subjects Compliance workshop Sept. 22
"NCURA TV – The Fiscal Aspects of Human Subjects Compliance" will take place from 1-4:30 p.m. Thursday (9/22) in 117 Research Administration Building. This session will provide an overview of laws, regulations and recent enforcement activity related to billing, discuss recent examples of non-compliance (including settlements), and discuss best practices to ensure compliance. Acceptable agreement language related to this type of billing will also be covered.

Controversies in Vascular Diseases, Annual Vascular Noninvasive Testing Symposium
Controversies in Vascular Diseases & the 4th Annual Vascular Noninvasive Testing Symposium will take place Friday (10/7)-Saturday (10/8) in the Ross Heart Hospital Auditorium. Curriculum includes endovenous ablation vs. surgical stripping, open vs. endovascular critical limb ischemia, open vs. stenting carotid artery, renal artery stenosis, carotid disease, visceral scanning, venous duplex scanning and upper extremity DVT study. CME credit hours available.

OSC offers workshop to introduce computational systems to faculty, staff, students
The Ohio Supercomputer Center is offering a free workshop to faculty, staff and students interested in using the Glen Linux cluster, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday (10/12)-Thursday (10/13) in OSC's BALE Theatre, 1224 Kinnear Road. The purpose of the course is to show researchers how to log onto the cluster, use the compilers, perform batch processing, and utilize the parallel programming facilities of the cluster. A preview of the new Oakley system will also be provided.

Attend a Digital Union autumn workshop and discover ways to enhance the experience of teaching and learning for instructors and students. Topics to be explored include open education, copyright and citation, Carmen, usability and accessibility, game-based learning, quality assurance in online learning, mobile applications, Microsoft tools, and Xtranormal. The Digital Union is a part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer. Seats are limited, and registration is required.
