Headline newsFACULTY RECOGNITION PROGRAM OCT. 18University Libraries, Academic Affairs and the Faculty Club will host the
fifth annual Faculty Recognition Program reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday
(10/18) at the Faculty Club Grand Lounge to honor all Ohio State faculty granted
tenure or promotion in 2007/08. The reception is open to the university community
and guests. Faculty honorees have the opportunity to select a book or a bound
journal volume from the University Libraries’ collection to be book-plated
in their name in recognition of their accomplishments. Read

CAMPUS EVENTS TO FEATURE BUCKEYE BOOK COMMUNITY AUTHORAuthor Dave Eggers, a 2007 Buckeye Book Community selection, will be featured
in two campus events at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/17) and Thursday (10/18) at
Mershon Auditorium. On Oct. 17, Eggers will read from his book, “What
is the What” and he and guest Valentino Achak Deng (the central character
of the book) will take questions. On Oct. 18, Eggers will field questions from
the audience in a talk show format. A book signing will follow both evenings
in 100 Mendenhall Lab. A limited number of free tickets will be available starting

PHA DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR 2008 PREMIUM REDUCTIONWhile the Incentive Program has ended, the deadline to take the Personal Health
Assessment online questionnaire has been extended to Friday (12/14) to allow
faculty and staff to obtain the $10 monthly or $4.62 biweekly health plan premium
discount beginning in 2008. The premium reduction for PHAs completed Oct. 1-Dec.
14 will not be reflected in Open Enrollment confirmation information but will
take effect with your January pay. Get a free health screening at one of several
locations around campus to obtain data needed to complete the PHA online. (This
data also may be obtained from your physician within the last 12 months.) Register

Risks) or call 292-1050. FAMILY VIOLENCE AND RELATION ABUSE PRESENTATIONHuman Resources’ Organizational and Human Resource Consulting is sponsoring
a two-hour interactive presentation allowing participants to increase their
knowledge about family violence and relationship abuse, improve their comfort
level with intervening, and increasing their knowledge about family violence
resources available to them and their co-workers. Two sessions will be held:
9-11 a.m. Wednesday (10/10) and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday (10/16). Contact: 292-2800. Read
more > LECTURE TO EXAMINE THE ROLE OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESSThe Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension
Center will present a free public lecture, “The Cleveland Call & Post
and the Election of Carl B. Stokes” at 6 p.m. Thursday (10/11) at the
Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. The speaker is Felecia Jones
Ross, OSU associate professor of Communication. The Cleveland Call and Post,
an African American newspaper was instrumental in the election of Carl B. Stokes,

Day from 2-6 p.m. Sunday (10/7) in Page Hall. A variety of workshops are offered
on topics that can help you get involved, get excited or get moving with your
research. Students have the opportunity to meet faculty and students and attend
specialized programs on international, summer or interdisciplinary research.

about the Career Panel for Graduate Students scheduled for 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday
(10/9) in 150 Younkin Success Center. Learn from a panel of former graduate
students in Chemistry, Molecular Genetics, Engineering, Sociology, and English

raise funds for the 2007 OSU Bucks for Charity drive. Each book contains hundreds
of two-for-one discounts for fine and casual dining, movies, sports activities,
special attractions and hotels. The central Ohio Entertainment 2008 book sells
for $20 ($25 retail), $4 of which will go to Bucks for Charity on behalf of
