FACULTY RECOGNITION PROGRAM OCT. 18

University Libraries, Academic Affairs and the Faculty Club will host the fifth annual Faculty Recognition Program reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday (10/18) at the Faculty Club Grand Lounge to honor all Ohio State faculty granted tenure or promotion in 2007/08. The reception is open to the university community and guests. Faculty honorees have the opportunity to select a book or a bound journal volume from the University Libraries’ collection to be book-plated in their name in recognition of their accomplishments. We're part of OSU, part of the health plan and providers in Your Plan for Health. Our Upper Arlington and Bethel Road locations are located five miles from campus and are accepting new patients. CAMPUS EVENTS TO FEATURE BUCKEYE BOOK COMMUNITY AUTHOR

Author Dave Eggers, a 2007 Buckeye Book Community selection, will be featured in two campus events at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/17) and Thursday (10/18) at Mershon Auditorium. On Oct. 17, Eggers will read from his book, “What is the What” and he and guest Valentino Achak Deng (the central character of the book) will take questions. On Oct. 18, Eggers will field questions from the audience in a talk show format. A book signing will follow both evenings in 100 Mendenhall Lab. National Work and Family Month Workshops. “What’s Working for GLBTs,” noon-1 p.m. Monday (10/8) - discussion includes workplace relationships, impact of school and peers on children, extended families, life-cycle events, organizations, activism, churches and entertainment. “Courageous Conversations About Eldercare,” noon-1 p.m. Tuesday (10/9) - gain insight and skills to better communicate and resolve issues around aging loved ones. PHA DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR 2008 PREMIUM REDUCTION

While the Incentive Program has ended, the deadline to take the Personal Health Assessment online questionnaire has been extended to Friday (12/14) to allow faculty and staff to obtain the $10 monthly or $4.62 biweekly health plan premium discount beginning in 2008. The premium reduction for PHAs completed Oct. 1-Dec. 14 will not be reflected in Open Enrollment confirmation information but will take effect with your January pay. Get a free health screening at one of several locations around campus to obtain data needed to complete the PHA online. (This data also may be obtained from your physician within the last 12 months.) FAMILY VIOLENCE AND RELATION ABUSE PRESENTATION

Human Resources’ Organizational and Human Resource Consulting is sponsoring a two-hour interactive presentation allowing participants to increase their knowledge about family violence and relationship abuse, improve their comfort level with intervening, and increasing their knowledge about family violence resources available to them and their co-workers. LECTURE TO EXAMINE THE ROLE OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESS

The Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center will present a free public lecture, “The Cleveland Call & Post and the Election of Carl B. Stokes” at 6 p.m. Thursday (10/11) at the Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. The speaker is Felecia Jones Ross, OSU associate professor of Communication. ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS BENEFIT CHARITY

Entertainment 2008 books are available to faculty, staff and students to help raise funds for the 2007 OSU Bucks for Charity drive. Each book contains hundreds of two-for-one discounts for fine and casual dining, movies, sports activities, special attractions and hotels. The central Ohio Entertainment 2008 book sells for $20 ($25 retail), $4 of which will go to Bucks for Charity on behalf of Ohio State.
