DEAN ANDREWS TO RETURN TO FULL-TIME FACULTY

Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Joseph Alutto has announced that David Andrews, dean of the College of Education and Human Ecology, will resign his position as dean, effective Monday (12/31). Andrews will return as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Human Development and Family Science and more fully devote his energies to his teaching and scholarly work. Subject to approval by the Board of Trustees, Senior Associate Dean Sandra Stroot will serve as interim dean, effective Tuesday (1/1/08), until a permanent dean is appointed. A search committee for a new dean will be appointed in the near future, and Dean John Roberts, College of Humanities, will serve as chair of the committee.

SECURITY TIP FROM THE CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER: PASSWORDS

Changing passwords often is still an important first line of security. Lengthy passwords are harder to crack, so be creative. Do use: at least eight characters and include upper and lowercase letters, punctuation, and numbers, and acronyms. Don't use: dictionary words and proper names, personal information such as birthdates, names of family members or pets, and address information. Read more tips

Throughout the year, FTAD facilitates workshops, forums and seminars on a variety of issues concerning college teaching and learning. SNIDERMAN TO DISCUSS MUSLIMS IN WESTERN EUROPE

Paul M. Sniderman, the Fairleigh S. Dickinson Jr., Professor of Public Policy at Stanford University, will discuss “Muslims in Western Europe” at 6 p.m. Wednesday (10/10) in 10 Page Hall. Sniderman offers a provocative look at the attitudes toward multiculturalism, immigrants and immigration, conflicts of values, and conflicts of identities. STUDY ABROAD FAIR IS SET FOR OCT. 12

Faculty are asked to encourage students to explore a myriad of opportunities to earn academic credit while studying in another country at the Office of International Affairs’ Study Abroad Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday (10/12) at the RPAC. The fair will showcase 100 different programs available in Asia, the Middle East, South America, Europe and Africa. FREE FLU SHOTS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

OSU faculty and staff can receive a free flu shot at several campus locations - including the regionals - between Wednesday (10/17) and Wednesday (12/5), courtesy of the university’s Faculty and Staff Wellness Program. Choose a date and location at osumhcs.com/wellness/ and click on Flu Shot Sign-Up. Your employee ID number/card (hospital ID for OSUMC staff) or a Social Security number will be required to receive your flu immunization. The campus flu campaign will include two dates - Wednesday (10/24) and Wednesday (10/31) - for adult dependents (18 years of age and older) of faculty and staff who are enrolled in a university medical plan. Dependents must present their health insurance card for identification.
