Headline newsALUTTO NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOSTPresident E. Gordon Gee announced Thursday (10/11) that he is appointing Joseph
A. Alutto as executive vice president and provost for Ohio State. Formerly
dean of the Fisher College of Business, Alutto recently served as the university's
interim president following the retirement of former President Karen Holbrook,
and also has been serving as interim provost since July. The appointment is
subject to Board of Trustees' approval, which is expected at the board's next
regular meeting on Friday (11/2). Read more >
CARTOONIST MILTON CANIFF HONORED IN ART EXHIBITIONSPioneering cartoonist and OSU graduate Milton Caniff is being remembered
on the 100th anniversary of his birth with two exhibitions, “Milton Caniff:
American Master” in Hopkins
Hall Gallery and “School of Caniff,” in Hopkins Hall Corridor through
Sunday (10/28). A reception is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Friday (10/26) in Hopkins
Hall. The exhibitions and reception are free. Informal gallery talks with the
curators are scheduled for noon today (10/12) and Friday (10/19). The exhibitions
are presented in conjunction with the ninth triennial Festival of Cartoon Art

HOUSING HOSTS EVENING AT THE COLUMBUS MUSEUM OF ARTUniversity Housing is inviting students, faculty and staff to attend An Evening
at the Columbus Museum of Art, from 7-11 p.m. Friday (10/26). The event is
free and intended to connect faculty, staff and students outside of the classroom
in the educational and relaxed atmosphere of the Columbus Museum of Art. Monet

will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday (10/19) in the Biomedical Research
Tower. The symposium, which is being offered without a fee to all OSU employees,
will include reviews of current imaging modalities, technical innovations and

your OSU ID number). LEADERSHIP CENTER OFFERS BEYOND THE SIDELINES WORKSHOPPut on your scarlet and gray and join the OSU Leadership Center on Thursday
(11/15) as it presents a game plan that will get you into the end zone every
time. Using the OSU football team as an analogy to leadership lessons learned,
the “Beyond the Sidelines: Lessons in Leadership with Coach Jim Tressel” workshop
is designed to help individuals increase leadership capacities and become better
team members in their organizations. Coach Jim Tressel will not be speaking

Grants. The grants are worth up to $500 each and are awarded annually to offset
education and training costs needed to further staff career goals and professional
development. Applicants must be a regular full-time or part-time staff member
and have at least two years of continuous employment with Ohio State. Applications
are due Monday (10/29) and are available
online.
The grants are funded through contributions to the Campus Campaign's Staff

kicks off the lecture series, “20-20 Vision: The Future of Scholarship

P. Tomsia, senior scientist of the University of California, Berkeley will
discuss “Composites and Scaffolds for Calcified Tissue Regeneration,” at

to campus to share his story of triumph over adversity during an appearance
at the Reese Center Auditorium from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/17). The event
is part of the campus’ Disability Awareness Month events and is free
and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow. Crittenden, whose
right leg was amputated below the knee to remove a rare form of cancer, will
