Headline newsDISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND UNIVERSITY STATE OF EMERGENCY POLICY ESTABLISHEDOSU has established the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency
Policy (#6.17) for unexpected catastrophic events resulting in a prolonged
university closure. The policy requires that faculty and staff be designated
as essential, alternate or standby; outlines how compensation, leave time and
other employment issues will work during an extended closure; and identifies
individual, leadership and unit responsibilities. The policy will become active
if a University State of Emergency is declared. Faculty and staff are encouraged
to become familiar with the policy and their department plans in case an emergency

State mailbox. Here’s a preview from the online version of onCampus: BENEFITS OPEN ENROLLMENT ENDS FRIDAYOpen Enrollment ends Friday (10/19). Eligible faculty
and staff must choose a new medical plan. Those who were previously enrolled,
but do not make a new election, will be defaulted into a medical plan. Faculty
and staff also may add or drop enrollment in dental and vision plans, enroll
in flexible spending accounts - current participants must re-enroll - or cancel
short-term disability coverage. All benefit elections will become effective

FACULTY PANEL DISCUSSIONS TO EXPLORE FUNDING ISSUESOSU researchers are invited to learn from successful OSU faculty who have already received funding from NSF, DOD, DOE and NIH. and African Studies at the University of Michigan will deliver “African
Americans in Ghana: Black Expatriates in the Civil Rights Era” from 1-2:30
p.m. Friday (10/19) in 347 University Hall. The lecture is presented by the
Departments of African American and African Studies and History. Refreshments

Events). CONCERT, RECEPTION TO HONOR SCHOOL OF MUSIC’S MCGINNISThe School of Music is presenting a free concert honoring Donald E. McGinnis
on his 90th birthday, at 3 p.m. Sunday (10/21) in Weigel Auditorium. The concert
will feature the OSU Wind Symphony and alumni guest artists. McGinnis taught
flute and clarinet at Ohio State for 38 years, conducted the OSU Concert Band
for 27 years and was chairman of the performance division and acting director
of the School of Music (1973-74). A reception honoring McGinnis will follow
the concert, from 5-6 p.m. at the Faculty Club, followed by a dinner. MICHAEL MCDONALD CONCERT TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAYMichael McDonald, with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra,

431-3600 or ticketmaster.com ROAD CLOSURE ALERT: COLUMBUS MARATHON IS SUNDAYThe 28th running of the Columbus Marathon is scheduled for Sunday (10/21).
Campus streets that will close periodically throughout the race are Neil Avenue,
12th Avenue, College Road, Woody Hayes Drive, Kenny Road, Lane Avenue and Ackerman
Road. High Street will be closed between Deshler and Dodridge. The road closures
