Today's Erika Linke presentation cancelled

The presentation by ACRL President Erika Linke originally scheduled for today (10/8) at the Ackerman Library has been cancelled due to illness. The program will be rescheduled for a later date. For more information, call 292-2503.

Scarlet, Gray and Green recycling program moves past 150-ton mark

With its totals from Ohio State football home dates vs. Troy (Sept. 20) and Minnesota (Sept. 27), OSU's Scarlet, Gray and Green sustainability campaign has surpassed the 150-ton mark in the span of just 11 home dates the last two seasons. More than 16 tons of recyclable materials were gathered during the Troy and Minnesota games, upping the program's total to more than 165 tons. The program exceeded expectations in its inaugural year in 2007 by amassing 119 tons, including 81 tons inside Ohio Stadium. Read more >

2009-2010 GEC clusters call for proposals

Faculty from all academic units are invited to propose a GEC Cluster for the 2009-2010 academic year. The program allows faculty to create a topic and bundle two or more GEC courses from at least two GEC categories that support their chosen topic. Clusters are an interdisciplinary program which means that the coursework must come from at least two departments. Proposals are due Friday (10/24). Details are available online. Latin American Studies hosts retrospective of Luis Buñuel’s Mexican films

The Center for Latin American Studies is focusing its autumn quarter film series on a retrospective of Luis Buñuel’s Mexican films, as part of its continuing outreach efforts to educate the community about business, politics, culture and the arts in Latin America. The opening film is “Los Olvidados” (The Young and the Damned), a story about a gang of juvenile delinquents whose sole redeeming quality is their apparent devotion to one another, to be shown at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/8) in 180 Hagerty Hall. Oct. 9 is OSU CIO IT Security Day

Every year, during the month of October, the Office of the Chief Information Officer and the IT Security Group will host speakers from around the state and the country who come to OSU to discuss topics surrounding information security at a Security Day event. This year's event is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday (10/9) in 140 Pfahl Hall and features speakers from Microsoft, Interhack and the Ohio Department of Education. Starry-Eyed: Fans of Celebrities, a ReadAloud in Second Life Oct. 9

The Libraries' ReadAloud invites you to enjoy a special program, "Starry-Eyed: Fans of Celebrities, a ReadAloud in Second Life," from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (10/9) in the Wexner Center Cafe. Gretchen Donelson and Linda Skelley, Fine Arts Library, and Jen Johnson, Kent State MLS student, will read a variety of essays on the subject for the Wexner Center audience as Tamu Oh aka Leta Hendricks simulcasts the reading in Second Life. Chinese Studies' Future of the Past Lecture Series continues Oct. 10

The Institute for Chinese Studies will continue its Future of the Past Lecture Series at 2:30 p.m. Friday (10/10) in 136 Jennings Hall with Margaret Wan, assistant professor, Department of Languages and Literature, University of Utah, presenting “Drum Ballad Texts as Local Literature in the Qing: Audiences and Reading Practices.” Wan’s presentation will focus on martial arts stories in Qing dynasty drum ballads from Beijing, Hebei, and Shenyang. GlobalFest to take place at RPAC Oct. 10

Join the Department of Recreational Sports at the RPAC Friday (10/10) for GlobalFest, a day-long celebration of the cultural diversity at Ohio State. Festivities will include the FedEx Ground World Cup Soccer Tournament, free international food, an array of global exhibits and displays, a late-night talent show, and more. Ohio State Mansfield concert honors 50th anniversary

In honor of Ohio State Mansfield's 50th Anniversary, Tony Pasquarello, faculty emeritus, will perform a free concert, “Fifty Years of Fabulous Favorites,” on the concert grand piano on Sunday (10/12) in the John and Pearl Conard Performance Hall in Riedl Hall. Special focus will be given to music of 1958, the first year OSU classes were offered in Mansfield, and 1966, the year the campus opened. Contact: Rodger C. Innovation, Learning and Learning Spaces seminar Oct. 13

Interested in learning how innovation can effect learning designs, including learning practices, applications, and spaces? Undergraduate Research Day set for Oct. 19

Undergraduate Research Day will take place from 1-5 p.m. Sunday (10/19) in the Psychology Building Lobby. Doctoral dissertation research awards available

Faculty are encouraged to inform advanced graduate students studying modern foreign languages and area studies that applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of Education's Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad program. Eligibility is restricted to students who possess the requisite language skills for the dissertation project, and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applications are available online. FOD offers guidelines for posting flyers and chalking messages

Posting flyers and chalking are effective methods of communicating messages to the university community. To maintain a beautiful campus and respect common space, please follow the guidelines below. Violations can result in fines. Contact Service2Facilites at 292-HELP for more information regarding these policies.

  • Posted flyers are limited to restricted areas - not walls, doors, buildings. Review the policy
  • Chalking is permitted only in open areas that can be directly washed by rain. Chalking must be on a horizontal surface not covered by an overhang. Review the policy
  • Violations of these policies constitute grounds for removal of the material by Facilities Operations and Development staff, which reserves the right to charge for the cost of removal and any associated repairs.
