Facilities Operations and Development winterizing fire hydrants

Facilities Operations and Development (Utilities) will begin winterizing all university fire hydrants this week. The City of Columbus mandates all privately owned fire hydrants are to be pumped free of water Oct. 15-April 15 every year. A “winterized” fire hydrant is one that has had all the water in the barrel section removed, thereby eliminating the possibility of the hydrant freezing that could break and become inoperable. If you need to use a hydrant or if you see anyone else using a hydrant, contact John Zink at 292-1446 or Jeff Mullins at 292-6383.
