Treating even mild diabetes in pregnancy has benefit

New research demonstrates the importance of treating pregnant women with even the mildest forms of gestational diabetes to reduce healthcare risks for both infants and mothers. Mark Landon, lead investigator of the study and interim chair of obstetrics and gynecology at the OSU Medical Center, and a team of investigators from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development conducted the clinical trial. RESEARCH STUDY. Interested in DENTAL IMPLANTS? The OSU Division of Periodontology is conducting several studies on dental implant therapy and is seeking volunteers for participation. The various studies have different purposes, eligibility criteria, and time commitment (duration). Art Squatters Downtown: Final open night Oct. 3

Twenty-five students in the Department of Art have created projects, installations and performances in vacant storefronts and buildings in the downtown Columbus core. They were enrolled summer quarter 2009 with Professor Malcolm Cochran, who obtained permission to use the spaces. The final opportunity to view this first-ever project by OSU artists in the downtown area, including special performances, is 6-10 p.m. Saturday (10/3). Look for signs and maps in the area of High and Gay Streets.

CLINICAL TRIAL. The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery is enrolling participants in a randomized clinical trial to test an investigational device to assist weight loss in patients who have had gastric bypass surgery. You may be eligible if you are 18-65 years of age, you are overweight, and you had gastric bypass surgery 2 or more years ago. New map makes it easy to find seasonal influenza vaccine locations

Faculty, staff and Medical Center personnel can receive a free flu vaccination on campus from Tuesday (10/6)-Friday (11/13). Adults are encouraged to get vaccinated, and it is strongly recommended for those who are considered high risk — 50 years of age and older; those with heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, asthma, cancer, or HIV/AIDS; and women who are pregnant. Find a location near you. To register, visit http://osumhcs.com/wellness (use the flu shot sign-up link). Bring your Buck ID or Medical Center ID and your employee identification number.

Participating Kroger pharmacies also will provide flu vaccinations free of charge to OSU employees. You must present one of the following: BuckID, Medical Center ID or both your health insurance card and a valid driver's license.

P-12 Project documenting university's K-12 collaborations

The P-12 Project is collecting information to update the Ohio State School Partnership Summary, which documents the university’s involvement in partnerships with schools, school districts, or school-age children and youth. The book lets policymakers and administrators know how faculty, staff and students are involved in programs that improve the performance of Ohio schools. Oct. 5: Engaging students with clickers

The Digital Union invites you to view and discuss the EDUCAUSE webinar "Clickers and Peer Instruction — A Powerful Way to Improve Student Engagement and Learning" from 1-2:30 p.m. Monday (10/5) at 060 Science and Engineering Library. Clickers, also known as audience response systems, allow real-time student polling during interactive presentations. Switch and cable restoration scheduled Oct. 5-Nov. 1

Phase IA of the switch and cable project starts up again on Monday (10/5) through Sunday (11/1). Pedestrian traffic on Neil Avenue at 19th and the Dreese walkway will be impacted. Autumn Dissertation Writing Groups now forming

Interdisciplinary Dissertation Writing Groups, comprised of 3-5 writers and a trained facilitator from the OSU Writing Center, meet weekly and provide timely, consistent, supportive feedback to writers on a rotating basis for approximately an hour. Registration opens today for 2010 Fisher Business Plan competition

Registration opens today (10/2) for the Center for Entrepreneurship's 2010 Fisher Business Plan Competition. If you have an idea to start your own business, form a team and compete for more than $130,000 in start up funds. Each team must have at least one Ohio State student and all current OSU students are eligible to participate. Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate with an eligible student member. International Photography Competition: Oct. 16 deadline

Current students, faculty, staff and visiting scholars at Ohio State are invited to submit their photos to the 2009 International Photography Competition by Wednesday (10/16). Entries must have been taken outside the United States. A "Best of Show" will be selected, as well as first-third places in People, Places, and Food categories. Online prescription refills at Wilce Student Health Center Pharmacy
