Flu update
Demand high for flu vaccines; availability at campus locations
There has been an unprecedented demand for seasonal flu vaccines this fall and there are shortages of the vaccine across the country. At Ohio State, on-campus seasonal flu vaccination locations still have supplies. Off campus, Kroger's and other providers are experiencing shortages. All faculty and staff who have not yet been vaccinated for the seasonal flu are encouraged to take advantage of the vaccine’s availability at a number of campus locations. RESEARCH STUDY. Interested in DENTAL IMPLANTS? The OSU Division of Periodontology is conducting several studies on dental implant therapy and is seeking volunteers for participation. The various studies have different purposes, eligibility criteria, and time commitment (duration). Three from OSU selected to attend NIH Graduate Student Research Festival
Three students from the College of Medicine’s Integrated Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program were chosen to attend the National Institutes of Health National Graduate Student Research Festival, all expenses paid: Amy Dworkin (mentor, Amanda Toland), Amanda Haidet (mentor, Brian Kaspar), and Chalonda Handy (mentor, Brian Kaspar). Today: Issue 2 debate on campus
A debate and Q&A session on the November Ballot Initiative, Issue 2, The Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board will take place at 8 p.m. today (10/19) in 100 Independence Hall. Presumption of Black Bias: Presumption of White Objectivity Oct. 22
As part of its 2009-2010 Lecture Series, the Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center will present “Presumption of Black Bias: Presumption of White Objectivity” by Vincene Verdun, associate professor, Moritz College of Law, at 6 p.m. Thursday (10/22) at the Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Dentistry’s Office of Research Distinguished Lecture Oct. 23
Stephen Hecht, a Wallin Land Grant Professor of Cancer Prevention and an American Cancer Society Research Professor at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center, will deliver the College of Dentistry Office of Research Distinguished Lecture from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday (10/23) in 115 Biomedical Research Tower. Pitts to deliver diversity lecture Oct. 28
The President and Provost’s Diversity Lecture and Cultural Arts Series is hosting "Step Out On Nothing: An Afternoon with Byron Pitts," at 4 p.m. Wednesday (10/28) at Saxbe Auditorium in Drinko Hall. Pitts is a multiple Emmy award-winning journalist, and has covered some of the top stories including the War in Iraq, Ground Zero immediately after Sept. 11 and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Oct. 20: Leer en Voz Alta (Spanish ReadAloud)

Changes to the optional digital channel line-up Oct. 20
Ohio State administrative and residential customers on the Columbus campus with optional digital cable TV services will see a new digital channel line-up beginning Tuesday (10/20). The basic (analog) line-up for the Columbus campus will not change. Time Warner Cable, the Office of the CIO’s contracted cable vendor, will move to a new theme-based line-up for the digital and HD tiers in the greater Columbus area. Digital channels above 100 will now be organized by themes, and HD channels will move and begin on channel 1000. Click here for more details and to view the revised digital line-up. Retirement Choices Forum set for Oct. 21
Human Resources will offer a forum on Wednesday (10/21) for newly hired faculty and staff to help with decisions regarding their retirement choices under ARP/OPERS/STRS. The forum will be held in Office of Human Resources, 1590 N. High St., Suite 430 from noon-1 p.m. Staff who are unable to attend, may use the free OPERS webinars to learn about the three retirement plans it offers. Nike Human Race to cap 2009 Homecoming Parade activities
With more than 1,500 students already registered, Ohio State faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Nike+ Human Race 2009, a worldwide running campaign to be held Friday (10/23) at the conclusion of the homecoming parade and pep rally. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. from Ohio Stadium. The 10K/5K run will begin at approximately 7:45 p.m. on College Drive at North Oval Mall and finish on the South Oval. Registration is $10; register online or at the race site. A portion of entry fees will be donated to Ohio State’s “Students First, Students Now" Scholarship Fund.
