President Gee addresses College Board: 'More than a Sum of its Parts'

At the 2009 College Board Forum on Wednesday (10/21), President E. Today: Homecoming Parade, Nike Human Race to impact campus traffic

The Homecoming Parade/Pep Rally and Nike Human Race will shut down most major roads on campus later today (10/23). More than 2,700 racers are registered to participate in the 5k/10k race. In addition, there is a 7 p.m. concert at the Schottenstein Center. Police and enforcement officers will begin to shut down roads starting at 5:30 p.m., and roads will remain closed until around 10 p.m. Motorists should anticipate significant traffic delays and plan accordingly to reduce frustration.

  • The parade begins at 6 p.m. from Ohio Stadium and ends at the South Oval about 7:15 p.m., where a Pep Rally will follow. View a map of the parade route. Read more: http://homecoming.osu.edu/
  • Runners will begin to stage on College Road for the start of the race from 7-7:15 p.m. The race begins immediately following the Pep Rally; start is on College Road just north of Hagerty. Read more >

Caligiuri elected president of Association of American Cancer Institutes

Michael Caligiuri, who leads the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James), is now president of the Association of American Cancer Institutes. Previously, Caligiuri served a two-year term as vice president and president-elect for the AACI, which is comprised of 95 leading cancer research centers in the United States. He assumed his new two-year term during the association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. Read more >

Today: Rizzoni to discuss world’s fastest hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicle

Giorgio Rizzoni, director of Ohio State’s Center for Automotive Research, will present “Buckeye Bullet 2! The fastest hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in the world,” at 2:30 p.m. today (10/23) in Scott Laboratory, room E001. Recently, the Buckeye Bullet 2 vehicle, created by a team of Ohio State students, recorded new FIA land speed records for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, with speeds in excess of 300 mph. The seminar will examine the history of the electric land speed record team at OSU, and describe in some technical detail the fuel cell power system and the vehicle.

Today: Dentistry’s Office of Research Distinguished Lecture

Stephen Hecht, a Wallin Land Grant Professor of Cancer Prevention and an American Cancer Society Research Professor at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center, will deliver the College of Dentistry Office of Research Distinguished Lecture from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. today (10/23) in 115 Biomedical Research Tower. Oct. 26 MBI colloquium: Biometry, R.A. Fisher, and Statistical Science

When Noel Cressie was awarded the R.A. Fisher Lectureship by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies in August, he gave a special lecture in Washington, D.C. He will combine parts of that lecture with a science perspective on statistics’ role in answering today’s biggest interdisciplinary questions, for a presentation at 2:30 p.m. Monday (10/26) in the Mathematical Biosciences Institute Lecture Hall (355 Jennings Hall). Forging Multidisciplinary Collaborations – 2009 Research Expo

Some of the most exciting research occurs at the intersection of disciplines, where different perspectives often yield new insights. But multidisciplinary research also poses significant challenges. How do you create successful multidisciplinary collaborations? At the annual Research Expo on Tuesday (11/3) in the Thompson Library, a panel of Ohio State faculty researchers will offer tips on how to find collaborators and negotiate issues such as authorship, workload, tenure, etc. in multidisciplinary research. OARDC to host OSU Renewable Energy Workshop

Ohio State will host its second annual Renewable Energy Workshop on Thursday (11/12) in the Fisher Auditorium at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster. Hear updates on wind, solar, bioenergy and biofuel production and use in Ohio; see practical ways to use less energy and save money; and tour OARDC’s state-of-the-art biomass processing and research facilities.
