One of the top-rated films of 2009, French director Claire Denis’ 35 Shots of Rum has a two-night run at the Wex this week, Thursday (10/29)-Friday (10/30). The film casts an insightful eye on a father and his grown daughter, whose deeply devoted relationship evolves unpredictably as their romantic relationships with others develop. Ohio State Alumni Magazine wins gold for best alumni publication
For the second time in three years, the Ohio State Alumni Magazine has been selected to receive the Gold Award for Best Institution/Alumni Magazine by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V. The magazine also recently received the 2009 James P. Barry Ohioana Award for Editorial Excellence, and was the first alumni publication to receive that honor. Nominations are being accepted through Friday (11/20) for the university's Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have rendered exceptional service to the university. Nominees may include those who have served in academic or administrative positions at the university, as well as alumni and other non-university individuals. Scarlet Gray and Green recycles used ink cartridges, cell phones

The fourth annual Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute Research Day is taking place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday (10/29) in the Biomedical Research Tower. Kirwan Institute hosts 'Childhood Obesity – Racial and Ethnic Disparities'
Sarah E. Anderson, assistant professor of Epidemiology, College of Public Health will discuss her research findings at a Kirwan Institute brownbag lunch session on Friday (10/30) in 423 Mendenhall Lab. The U.S. obesity epidemic has affected all demographic groups, but particularly concerning are increases in obesity among very young children. The campus community is welcome to attend.
