Gast, Orr, Faculty Dashboard featured in Inside Higher Ed

The Office of Human Resources' Laura Gast, senior systems analyst, and Ken Orr, resource planning analyst — along with the Faculty Dashboard — were in the spotlight last week during the annual conference of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. The Ohio State project, which received an enthusiastic reception at the conference, is one of three winners of the human resources association’s Sungard Higher Education Innovation Awards this year. SBS Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Social and Behavioral Sciences announce the SBS Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for 2010 to support promising scholars committed to diversity and prepare them to enter tenure track faculty positions. Fellows will be affiliated with one of the eight academic units of SBS: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Speech and Hearing Science. Pitts to deliver diversity lecture Oct. 28

The President and Provost’s Diversity Lecture and Cultural Arts Series is hosting "Step Out On Nothing: An Afternoon with Byron Pitts," at 4 p.m. Wednesday (10/28) at Saxbe Auditorium in Drinko Hall. Pitts is a multiple Emmy award-winning journalist, and has covered some of the top stories including the War in Iraq and Ground Zero immediately after Sept. 11. Discuss ‘What Women Want Now’ Oct. 28 at The Women’s Place

The Association of Staff and Faculty Women will host a Wisdom Circle Discussion from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday (10/28) at The Women’s Place, 400 Stillman Hall, to explore common ground, as well as consider differences, during a focused conversation around the topic of what women want now. The discussion will be based on a recent Time magazine article, “What Women Want Now.” Participants are asked to read the article before joining the conversation. Bélanger is Oct. 28 Knowlton School of Architecture lecture series guest

Pierre Bélanger will present “Redefining Infrastructure” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/28) in the Knowlton Hall Auditorium. The lecture is part of the KSA Territory series, and is free and open to the public. Bélanger is an associate professor at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design. His academic research and public work focus on the convergence of landscape and infrastructure in the interrelated fields of planning, design, and engineering. OSC's software development tools workshop Nov. 3-5

The Ohio Supercomputer Center offers academic and industry researchers a three-day workshop at no cost focused on developing large software projects, from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday (11/3)-Thursday (11/5) in BALE Theatre. The primary topic areas of this course include batch scripts, as well as, compiling, debugging, and version control of source code on Linux and Unix systems.
