Gee, Chatas to discuss 'financing the university' at Town Hall Meeting

 Join President Gee, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Geoff Chatas, and other university officials at 2 p.m. Thursday (10/27) in the Saxbe Auditorium in Drinko Hall (Moritz College of Law) for a discussion on financially sustaining the university. This Town Hall Meeting is co-hosted by USAC and the Faculty Council. The event will also be streamed live at rtsp://streaming1.osu.edu/broadcast/president.rm (Real Media) and mms://streaming1.osu.edu/wmtencoder/president.wm (Windows Media). Questions may be submitted in advance to usac@osu.edu. A limited number can be answered; indicate if you prefer your question to be read anonymously.

Down on Town: OSU Department of Art Faculty Exhibition

The Urban Arts Space presents Ohio State's talented teaching artists in its upcoming Down on Town: OSU Department of Art Faculty Exhibition, opening Tuesday (10/18). The exhibition features the work of 24 current Ohio State faculty, over a third of whom have been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts. Down on Town will be on view through Friday (12/9) at the Urban Arts Space, 50 W. Town St. An exhibition reception will take place 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday (10/27).

OSU Climate Change Webinar Series continues Oct. 18

Dave Kristovich from the University of Illinois' Center for Atmospheric Sciences is presenting "Recent Trends in Heavy Precipitation in the Great Lakes" at noon Tuesday (10/18), as part of the OSU Climate Change Outreach Team's webinar series. Register online for this free webinar. The series is part of a multi-departmental effort within the university to help localize the climate change issue for Ohioans and Great Lakes residents.

History of Art presents 'Medieval 1960s' Oct. 20

Alexander Nagel, professor of fine arts at New York University, will deliver "Medieval 1960s" at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (10/20) in 100 Mendenhall Laboratory. The lecture is free and open to all. The event is hosted by the Department of History of Art and is the department's 2011 Patrons' Lecture.

Oct. 21: Digital Storytelling Showcase

Join the Digital Storytelling Program for a showcase of recently created stories on a wide variety of topics from noon-1 p.m. Friday (10/21) in 165 Thompson Library. Faculty and staff will present the works they created during workshops in storytelling and production techniques. Several stories will highlight the immigration memories of Ohio State faculty, and one will highlight the experiences of an undocumented immigrant artist who participated in professor Peter Shane's "Information Stories" workshop. A Q&A session will follow.

Urdal to speak on youth population bulge in India

 Henrik Urdal, senior researcher at the Peace Research Institute of Oslo, will deliver "Differential Population Dynamics, Inequality and Political Violence in India" at noon Monday (10/24) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. Urdal is editor of the international Journal of Peace Research, and has consulted for the Human Security Report Project, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UNESCO, and the World Bank. Learning Collaboration Studio available for winter classes

The Learning Collaboration Studio is actively seeking faculty and instructors to reserve the room for classes and events to fill out the winter schedule. The LCS is a reconfigurable learning space complete with dual-boot laptops, SMART Podium, and on-site staff. There is no charge and the Office of the Chief Information Officer sponsors instructor orientation sessions to provide insight on how to make use of the space. Submit requests by Friday (10/28).
