Ohio State scientist receives one of nation's highest honors
An Ohio State scientist, whose research and discoveries are respected around the world, has been named to the prestigious Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, one of the highest honors in the field of health and medicine. Carlo M. Croce, chair of the department of molecular virology, immunology, and medical genetics; and director of the OSU Medical Center's Institute of Genetics, was named a member of the IOM on Monday (10/17) in Washington, DC.

Today: Mortar Board Senior Class Honorary hosts Columbus on Campus
The Mortar Board Senior Class Honorary is hosting Columbus on Campus, an event geared to introduce students to Columbus, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday (10/18) in the Ohio Union Performance Hall. Local businesses will provide engaging activities for students, in addition to providing information and brochures. From making flubber to seeing live dancers, enjoy a "mini" taste of Columbus. Free admission and beverages.
Today: Reading Immigration I at Swing Space Gallery
Visit the new Arts and Sciences Swing Space Gallery (1556 N. High St.) from 5-7 p.m. today (10/18) and hear artists and writers live readings of their short stories/poems based on their immigration experience. A special introductory performance from Living Out by Lisa Loomer, currently in production with the OSU Theatre Department, will start off the evening.

Bill Lestock Trio to perform free concert in Newark
The Bill Lestock Trio will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday (10/19) in the LeFevre Hall Black Box Theater at Ohio State Newark. The concert is free and open to the public. Entirely acoustic, the concert will allow the audience to hear the nuances of upright bass, acoustic guitar, and mandolin/fiddle with no electrical mediation.

Henry Smith-Miller to lecture at KSA Oct. 19
Henry Smith-Miller will lecture at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (10/19) in the Gui Auditorium, 250 Knowlton Hall. Smith-Miller is a partner in Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects. The firm has received numerous awards. This lecture is free and open to the public.

Rinkov lectureship in ovarian cancer set for Nov. 3
"Ovarian Cancer: Prevention, Screening and Treatment" is the topic of the Claudia Rinkov Lectureship in Ovarian Cancer presented by David Cohn, director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Ohio State, from 6-7 p.m. Thursday (11/3) in the Ohio Union Interfaith Room. Teaching and Research Statements
The third installment of UCAT and Career Connection's "Planning Ahead for an Academic Job Search" series will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday (10/20). "Teaching and Research Statements" will provide an overview of each type of statement, describe how they are used in the academic job search process, and provide guidance on how to write them. There will be opportunities in the session to start the process of writing these statements.
