Headline newsNSF GRANT LEADS TO ONLINE MAGAZINE: BEYOND PENGUINS AND POLAR BEARSKimberly Lightle, director of Digital Libraries, College of Education and
Human Ecology, has been awarded $1.5 million by the National Science Foundation
International Polar Year Program to develop an online magazine, “Beyond
Penguins and Polar Bears: Integrating Literacy and IPY in K-5 Classrooms.” The
project will take advantage of emerging Web 2.0 tools and applications in developing
the user interface and make available an IPY Learning Objects Repository that
will allow other developers to tap into a wealth of IPY resources. Project
partners include the OSU Byrd Polar Research Center, Ohio Resource Center,
COSI, Cornell University, and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research.

Department of Theatre this quarter, will present “Ukrainian Theatre as
a Challenge” at 4:30 p.m. today (11/1) in 2038 Drake Performance Center.
The lecture is free and open to all. Ryabchuk is currently a project manager
at the Theatre Center of Kyiv Mohyla Academy National University, Ukraine,
and is closely involved with all new aspects of productions in both the amateur

(11/1)-Thursday (11/15). Faculty and staff are encouraged to review the information
and verify that all benefit elections are accurate. The online statement reflects
elections made during the recent Open Enrollment period for medical, dental,
vision, flexible spending accounts, and short-term disability. A confirmation
statement will be mailed to the home address of those who submitted a paper
election. Those previously enrolled into a medical plan, who did not make an
active election for 2008, were defaulted to the Prime Care Advantage plan.
Those who did not previously have a medical plan will not be defaulted into

by David Halperin, the W.H. Auden Collegiate Professor of the History and Theory
of Sexuality at the University of Michigan. He will review some of the striking
and distinctive features of the theory of love and desire presented in Plato’s

documentary scene, this inspiring film records the everyday life and labor
of three elderly rice farmers in the heart of Taiwan's rice-producing country.
