Headline newsVETERANS DAY SALUTE TO AFRICAN AMERICAN VETS OF THE VIETNAM WAR ERAIn honor of our nation’s veterans, the Department of African American
and African Studies Community Extension Center will present its annual Black
Veterans Day Salute from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday (11/10) at the Community
Extension Center, 905 Mount Vernon Ave. African American Veterans of the United
States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War Era will share their stories of
courage and triumph and will be honored for their bravery and unwavering commitment

TODAY: RESEARCHER TO BE FEATURED ON THE TODAY SHOWJason Box, assistant professor of geography and research scientist at the
Byrd Polar Research Center, is appearing on the Today Show today (11/6). Play
a clip of the show. He'll be speaking to host Matt Lauer on location in Greenland
as part of the show's weeklong "Ends of the Earth" series. The two
will discuss how Greenland ice is responding to climate change, and talk about
the broader impacts for our planet. The show starts at 7 a.m. on NBC. Box also

NOBEL LAUREATE TO PRESENT BATTELLE HEADLINE LECTURENobel Laureate Russell Hulse, will deliver “Science: From Nobel to Neighborhoods” from
4:30-5:30 p.m. today (11/6) in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. A reception will
follow. Hulse is a visiting professor of science education at the University
of Texas at Dallas and a member of the Battelle Institute’s Board of
Directors. His physics work on binary pulsars earned him the Nobel Prize in
1993. The event is free, but reservations are required at nov6@jgippm.ohio-state.edu.
The Battelle Headline Lecture Series is presented by the Battelle Center for
Mathematics and Science Education Policy, an affiliate of the John Glenn School

more > LI TO DISCUSS OSU SUPPORT FOR THE MARS EXPLORATION ROVER MISSIONThe departments of Geography and Statistics are sponsoring the first lecture
in the Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Geospatial Data and Analysis
Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. today (11/6) in 240 Cockins Hall. Rongxing Li,
L.B. Strange Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic
Science at Ohio State, will deliver “Geospatial Information - Continued
OSU Support for the Mars Exploration Rover Mission.” A reception will
follow. Read more > TELR TO HOST STUDYMATE WORKSHOP NOV. 7TELR has licensed StudyMate for all campuses of Ohio State to use for a trial
pilot period to provide instructors another easy way to publish eLearning content.
With StudyMate, instructors can create 10 Flash-based online activities and
games for students to review content for exams. Instructors post these on Carmen
for students to access and some can be downloaded for use on an iPod, PSP or
other mobile device. TELR eLearning Consultants will present a demonstration/workshop
at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (11/7) in the Digital Union, 390 Science Engineering

project Massive Change and featured in the movie "The 11th Hour," will
give the fifth annual DeeDee and Herb Glimcher Lecture at the Wexner Center
on Wednesday (11/7) in Mershon Auditorium. He will also be signing books in
the lobby at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Read more > NOV. 8 READALOUD PROGRAM TUNED TO WEGMAN EXHIBITThe Libraries’ ReadAloud program continues from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (11/8) at the Wexner Center Cafe: Cam’s on Campus, with a reading tuned to the Wegman exhibit. Featured author Charlene Fix, CCAD, will read poetry from her book, “Flowering Bruno: a Dography” as well as the James Thurber story, “The Dog That Bit People.” Rick Brown, University Libraries and editor of “Naked Sunfish,” will be reading the poetry of Maxi Branin (as translated from “bark” by Ms. Anita Branin), along with two tales about his Bichon Frise, Henri Richard. Contact: distel.1@osu.edu OSU OLENTANGY BIKE TRAIL CLOSED THURSDAYThe Ohio State portion of the Olentangy bike path will be closed between Herrick Drive and King Avenue on Thursday (11/8). Though the path will be reopened on Friday (11/9), bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to exercise extreme caution. The path is closed for tree and foliage removal to prepare the site for the substation upgrade. The area will be an extreme safety hazard because of heavy machinery and falling limbs.
