Headline newsNCI AWARDS $17 MILLION TO OHIO STATE CANCER SCIENTISTSThe National Cancer Institute has awarded two major grants totaling $17 million
to two Ohio State cancer researchers. Michael Caligiuri, director of the OSU
Comprehensive Cancer Center, has received $10 million over five years to study
the use of certain human immune cells combined with cutting-edge drugs for
the treatment of leukemia and other cancers. The grant is a renewal of a study
that began in 2002 and encompasses four closely related projects. The NCI also
awarded A. Douglas Kinghorn, Jack L. Beal Professor and Chair, College of Pharmacy,
and a member of the OSUCCC Experimental Therapeutics Program, $7 million for
a five-year project titled “Discovery of Anticancer Agents of Diverse

cultures during the eighth annual International Education Week, from Monday
(11/12)-Friday (11/16), a joint initiative established by the U.S. Departments
of Education and State. As Ohio State continues its commitment to internationalization
and global awareness, now is the time to broaden awareness and understanding
of world viewpoints and invest in the future. Faculty and staff are encouraged

RESEARCH PROJECT USES TIBETAN MEDITATION TO TREAT STRESS DISORDEROhio State and Miami University researchers will use an ancient technique
to address a modern problem. The researchers will explain their project and
introduce the Tibetan monk who will teach meditation skills during “Wellness
through Meditation,” from 2-4 p.m. today (11/7) at Franklin Park Conservatory,
1777 E. Broad St. The research project, “Treatment of Trauma Survivors:
Effects of Meditation Practice on Clients’ Mental Health Outcomes,” investigates
the impact of Tibetan meditation on victims of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Researchers will work with a group of women diagnosed with PTSD who live in
Amethyst House, a women’s treatment program for alcohol and drug addiction

and Veterinary Medicine, or tour the Byrd Polar Research Center, from 9-11:30
a.m. today (11/7) during the Breakfast of Science Champions program. Students
meet faculty and graduate students from the sciences, mathematics and engineering,
and tour labs and participate in a variety of demonstrations. At the end of
the school year, participants are invited back to campus for a virtual conference

will present “Drug Transporters in New Drug Discovery and Development” at
11:30 a.m. Thursday (11/8) in 103 Parks Hall. The event is part of the College
of Pharmacy Distinguished Lecture Series. Sugiyama is the president of the
International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics and the Japanese Society
for Xenobiotic Metabolism and Disposition. He is the most-cited author in Pharmacology & Toxicology

Bob Hale of Resource Interactive. A panel discussion follows with Tingting
Lu, OSU doctoral candidate specializing in usability, and Nolan Crabb, director
