STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM TOWN HALL MEETING NOV. 27

Learn about the new Student Information System by attending a special Town Hall meeting from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday (11/27) in the Independence Hall auditorium. This overview is designed for non-system users. All members of the university community are welcome. The meeting can also be viewed live at: http://streaming.osu.edu/live2.htm. Direct questions or comments during or after the live cast to: sis@osu.edu. A video stream of the presentation will also be available on the SIS Web site beginning Saturday (12/1).

INTERDISCIPLINARY GRANTS AVAILABLE

The OSU Institute for Energy and the Environment is initiating a program to provide competitively awarded grants. The IEE Grant Enhancement Program will provide up to $345,000 in grants to faculty, staff and students to support interdisciplinary research, assist in the development of cutting edge programs related to Energy and the Environment, and leverage support to increase campus sustainability. The support IEE provides through this program will be a key component of the university’s strategic plan to support and enhance its energy and environmental enterprise. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunchtime. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. 2020 VISION SERIES ROUNDTABLE, LECTURE NOV. 29

The OSU Libraries and TELR invite you to attend a small roundtable discussion with Nancy Eaton, dean of Libraries and Scholarly Communications at Penn State University, and Sanford Thatcher, director of Penn State University Press, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday (11/29) at the Digital Union, 370 SEL. POSTPONED RUSSELL SIMMONS LECTURE TO BE RESCHEDULED

Due to a weather delay out of New York, the Russell Simmons lecture scheduled for Tuesday (11/20) was postponed. Simmons and OUAB are planning to reschedule and hope to have a new date before the Winter Break. Please keep your tickets as they will be honored on the new show date. ALL-OHIO ECONOMIC SEMINAR FEATURES HARVARD ECONOMIST

The Department of Economics will host the All-Ohio Economic History Seminar from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday (11/29) in 140 Pfahl Hall, with a reception to follow. Harvard University Professor Claudia Goldin will deliver “The Race between Education and Technology.” Goldin is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a fellow of the Econometric Society. WEXNER CENTER TO SCREEN ACCLAIMED DOCUMENTARY

The Wexner Center is presenting the local debut of the documentary “The Devil Came on Horseback” Tuesday (11/27) and Wednesday (11/28). The New York Times wrote that this powerful first-hand account of the Sudanese government’s genocide of its citizens “demands to be seen as soon as possible.” The screenings are being held in conjunction with a conference presented by the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity Friday (11/30)-Sunday (12/2). Registration is due today (11/26) for the next Association of Staff and Faculty Women event, scheduled for Thursday (11/29). Nancy Messerly, human resources communication and organizational development consultant at Ohio State, will share specific steps to help you prepare for difficult conversations and get through them, and offer advice on how to avoid pitfalls and ways to bring about a productive result. ENROLLMENT DEADLINE TODAY FOR CED CLASSES

Today (11/26) is the last day that students and employees can use the online Superform to apply for winter 2008 Continuing Education undergraduate admissions. Apply online. International students, OSU employees with visas, or permanent residents in possession of a green card for less than one year must use the international CEd application.
