Here’s an elegant nightclub experience right on your doorstep. Polish pianist Marcin Wasilewski backed up trumpeter Tomasz Stanko at the Wexner Center’s enormously popular concert in 2006, and he returns tonight with his own jazz trio in a cabaret-style setting, complete with table seating and a cash bar. Javaune Adams-Gaston named VP for Student Life

 OSU President E. Gordon Gee announced the appointment of Javaune Adams-Gaston as vice president for student life during the Friday (11/7) Board of Trustees meeting. Adams-Gaston will fill the post following the January 2009 retirement of Richard Hollingsworth, who has held that position since 2006. Adams-Gaston is executive director of the University Career Center and the President’s Promise program at the University of Maryland in College Park, and equity administrator in the university’s Division of Student Affairs. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Michaels named dean of the Moritz College of Law

OSU President E. Gordon Gee announced the appointment of Alan C. Michaels as dean of the Moritz College of Law at the Friday (11/7) meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees. Michaels, who holds the Edwin M. Cooperman Endowed Professorship of Law in Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, has been named dean effective Saturday (11/1). He has been serving as interim dean since May 2008, succeeding Nancy Rogers who left the university to become Ohio’s attorney general. Michaels joined the Ohio State law faculty in 1995. Ohio State announces partnership with UK’s Royal Shakespeare Company

Ohio State formally announced a partnership with the UK’s Royal Shakespeare Company on Friday (11/7) at the University’s Board of Trustees meeting. President E. Gordon Gee calls the international partnership one of the university’s most important initiatives, an opportunity for two world-class institutions to come together to create a premier program for the study, teacher training and production of Shakespeare, inspired by the methodology and highly respected practices of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The partnership - the first of its kind in the U.S. - is being spearheaded by the office of Karen Bell, associate vice president, and includes the College of Education and Human Ecology, the Colleges of the Arts and Humanities, and the Wexner Center for the Arts. Notice: Ambassador Holbrooke’s Nov. 13 lecture cancelled

The lecture to be given by Ambassador Richard Holbrooke at 4 p.m. Thursday (11/13) in 1008 Evans Laboratory has been cancelled. President-elect Barack Obama has called Holbrooke to Washington, D.C., to help with his transition to the presidential office. This event will not be rescheduled. Symposium on Evolution of Genomes and Origin of Species will take place today (11/10) at the Mathematical Biosciences Institute. The symposium brings together some of the leading researchers in evolutionary dynamics and mathematical modeling to talk about the evolution itself of Darwin's theory, and its applications to diverse systems such as cancer and infectious diseases. Susan Faludi, Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and best-selling author will deliver "The Heart of the Matter: 'How Feminism Explains America' "at 4 p.m. Thursday (11/13) in the auditorium of the Moritz College of Law, Drinko Hall. She is the author of Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women, Stiffed: Betrayal of the American Man and The Terror Dream: Fear and Fantasy in Post-9/11 America. K’arts Korean Music Ensemble Nov. 12

The Korean Studies Initiative and the East Asian Studies Center will present the K’arts Korean Music Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (11/12) at Hughes Auditorium. The ensemble will perform Korean traditional music and dance, including court dance, court ensemble music, folk music (sanjo and sinawi) and percussion band music (samulnori). World Usability Day: Transportation focus of Nov. 13 event

This year's World Usability Day is focused on transportation. Designing next-generation energy systems lecture Nov. 13

Dan G. Cacuci, director of the Institute of Nuclear Technology and Reactor Safety, University of Karlsruhe, Germany, will offer an open presentation on the use of predictive science tools in the design of the next-generation of energy systems, from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday (11/13) in Scott Labs, Room E100. View highlights of Ottawa International Animation Film Festival at Wexner

The Ottawa International Animation Festival, held every year in September, is the largest festival of its kind in North America. The traveling program, screening Thursday (11/13) at the Wexner Center includes highlights from the 2008 festival and displays the wide variety of styles and subjects currently being explored by animators from around the world. CUNY professor to speak on science and the arts

Brian Schwartz, vice president for research and sponsored programs, professor of physics, and co-director of the New Media Lab at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York will deliver "Science as Performance: A Proactive Strategy to Communicate and Educate Through Theater, Music, and Dance" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (11/13) in 1015 McPherson. Department of Theatre hosts symposium on science and theatre

The Department of Theatre is hosting a symposium in conjunction with its production of Stephen R. Culp’s Pangea at 3:30 p.m. Friday (11/14) in the Roy Bowen Theatre, Drake Performance & Event Center. The panel will respond to the production while discussing the practical and theoretical aspects of incorporating science as the subject matter in theatre. Speakers include playwright Stephen R. Culp, director Jimmy Bohr, Berry Lyons, director of the OSU Byrd Polar Research Center, and Brian Schwartz of the CUNY Department of Physics. Pangea runs Thursday (11/13)-Sunday (11/23). Student Financial Aid offers economic forums

The Office of Student Financial Aid will offer two forums in November to address students' questions and concerns about the effect of the economy on your ability to pay for school and other expenses, at 5 p.m. Thursday (11/13) in 155 Jennings Hall and 5 p.m. Monday (11/24) in 250 Knowlton Hall.
