Headline newsAhalt appointed chair of national Coalition for Academic Scientific ComputationStan Ahalt, executive director of the Ohio Supercomputer Center and OSU professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been appointed chair of the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation for 2009. An advocacy group for accelerating scientific discovery through computing technology, CASC represents 60 of the nation’s top research universities and computing centers. Ahalt will serve as an expert resource on high performance computing for the U.S. Congress, federal agencies, and state and local government bodies throughout the nation. OSC provides Ohio industries and universities, including Ohio State, with a reliable high performance computing and networking infrastructure. Read more >

NRC research associateships announcedThe National Research Council of the National Academies has announced its postdoctoral and senior research associateship programs for 2009. Full-time associateships are awarded for research in the fields of chemistry, earth, atmospheric and space sciences, engineering, applied sciences, and physics. Many of the laboratories are open to both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals and to both recent doctoral recipients and senior investigators. Postdoctoral stipends range from $42,000 to $72,000. Two one-year fellowships of up to $24,000 are available for doctoral candidates researching U.S. environmental public policy and/or U.S. environmental conflict resolution and who are entering their final year of writing the dissertation.
