Ohio State leads effort on behalf of alumnus Jesse Owens
Ohio State is leading an initiative to have a statue of legendary track star Jesse Owens represent the state of Ohio in the U. S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall. The university on Friday (11/6) presented its case to members of the National Statuary Collection Study Committee. Jesse Owens was not only a stellar athlete, but a true diplomat for humanity, said Rusty Wilson, an Ohio State alumnus, staff member and author of the book, The Ohio State University at the Olympics. Lee recognized by Women for Economic and Leadership Development
Women for Economic and Leadership Development has honored Dawn Tyler Lee, assistant vice president in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Outreach & Engagement, among its 12 “Women You Should Know” for 2010. Lee, who serves as the university’s liaison for local government and community organizations, is featured on WELD’s sixth annual “Women You Should Know” calendar, which showcases central Ohio’s business and community leaders. DEPRESSION RESEARCH STUDY: The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry is currently enrolling for a research study to evaluate a novel drug for depression. Participants must be 18-60 years old, currently depressed, and have had at least one previous episode of depression. Participants will receive study-related care and study drug (or placebo) at no cost and receive some compensation for their time. Mershon Center offers faculty, student research grants
Each year, the Mershon Center for International Security Studies holds a competition for Ohio State faculty and students to apply for grant funds that may be used for a variety of purposes including travel, research, seminars, conferences, interviews, experiments, workshops and more. Applications must be for projects related to the study of national security in a global context. The Mershon Center is interested in participating in the university’s efforts to open global gateway communities in China, India, and Brazil. The deadline is Friday (1/29). Nominations open for African American Alumni Awards
The nomination period is now open for Ohio State’s African American Alumni Awards, to be presented in four categories at the All Decade African American Alumni Reunion, Friday (4/30)-Sunday (5/2). The reunion is a collaborative effort between Ohio State’s African American Alumni Society and the Alumni Association. The nomination period closes Sunday (1/31). Journeys: Treasures of The Ohio State University Special Collections
The curators of the OSU Libraries Special Collections will discuss the current Thompson Library exhibition, "Journeys: Treasures of The Ohio State University Special Collections," at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (11/12) at the library.
