Blood vessels might predict prostate cancer behavior

A diagnosis of prostate cancer raises the question for patients and their physicians as to how the tumor will behave. Will it grow quickly and aggressively and require continuous treatment, or slowly, allowing therapy and its risks to be safely delayed? The answer may lie in the size and shape of the blood vessels that are visible within the cancer, according to research led by investigators at the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center-Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute in collaboration with the Harvard School of Public Health. Read more >

Veterans Day holiday observed Nov. 11; CABS service announced

The university will be observing Veteran's Day on Wednesday (11/11). There will be no classes and offices will be closed. In observance of the holiday, CABS will run reduced service on Wednesday (11/11). Please note that during the holiday, WA, WB, WC, and CX permits are valid in C spaces on Central Campus. DEPRESSION RESEARCH STUDY: The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry is currently enrolling for a research study to evaluate an investigational drug for depression. Participants must be 18-60 years old, currently depressed, and have had at least one previous episode of depression. Participants will receive study-related care and study drug (or placebo) at no cost and receive some compensation for their time. Curley named fellow by American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists

Robert W. Curley, Jr., OSU professor of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy is among the 2009 AAPS Fellows announced Sunday (11/8) by the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Curley has spent nearly 30 years researching the chemistry and biochemistry of vitamin A derivatives (retinoids). His specific interests include developing stable analogs of unstable metabolites of retinoids in order to improve their breast cancer chemopreventive and therapeutic activity and reduce their toxicity. Caligiuri to present State of the Cancer Program Address Nov. 16

The university community is invited to attend the State of the Cancer Program Address with Michael Caligiuri from 4:30-6 p.m. Monday (11/16) in the Thompson Library Campus Reading Room. Join Caligiuri, director, OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center and CEO, Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, as he presents the future of Ohio State’s one cancer program and celebrates the successes of the past year. Student Consolidated Services Center hours announced

The Student Consolidated Services Center will be closing at 2 p.m. today (11/10) so staff can attend training. The SCSC will also be closed on Wednesday (11/11) in observance of Veteran's Day. Normal hours of operation (listed at http://scsc.osu.edu) will resume on Thursday (11/12).

OSU Libraries’ ReadAloud continues Nov. 12

The OSU Libraries’ ReadAloud for Thursday (11/12) features Jeannetta Holliman, Rodyn H. Douglas, and Chiquita Mullins Lee reading a piece they wrote collaboratively called Twelve, a creative nonfiction work. The dramatic reading recounts and weaves together the individual stories of the authors at the age of 12. The event takes place weekly from 3-4 p.m. in the Thompson Library Berry Café lounge. White to discuss 'Predictions for NIH in FY11'

Patrick White, vice president for federal relations, Association of American Universities will be on campus Friday (11/13) to deliver “Beyond the Federal Stimulus: Predictions for NIH in FY11,” from noon-1 p.m. in 105 Biomedical Research Tower. White is responsible for the development and implementation of the association staff who serve the presidents and chancellors of AAU’s 62 research universities, and is responsible for biomedical research and research policy issues.
