Stefanie Spielman hailed as 'truly a champion'
Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee, Michael Caligiuri, director of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center and chief executive officer of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute; and Lance Armstrong, champion cyclist, three-time cancer survivor and LIVESTRONG founder, issued statements on Thursday (11/19) regarding breast cancer survivor and advocate Stefanie Spielman, who died after more than a decade-long battle with breast cancer.

Nominations sought for Outreach and Engagement Awards
The Office of Outreach and Engagement requests nominations of outreach and engagement partnerships for the 2010 Outreach Scholarship W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Award. Partnerships that are led by faculty (individual or small team) or those that are led by a college or vice presidential unit are encouraged to apply. Submit a 500-word abstract online at http://outreach.osu.edu/oe_awards.php by Friday (12/18). The partnership selected as Ohio State’s nominee for the regional award will be asked to complete the full application by Monday (3/8).

John Glenn School of Public Affairs, Fisher College of Business offer dual degree
The John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the Fisher College of Business have joined together to offer a new degree program. Starting next fall, students at the two schools will be able to earn a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Business Administration in three years.

2010-2011 Freshman Seminar call for proposals
Tenure-track faculty are invited to propose a 1 or 2 credit Freshman Seminar for the upcoming academic year. Seminars to be taught Autumn Quarter are due Tuesday (12/1); Winter Quarter due Monday (3/1); Spring Seminars are due Tuesday (6/1). Autumn Commencement academic processional information
Faculty planning to march in the academic processional at Autumn Commencement, set for 2 p.m. Sunday (12/13) in the Schottenstein Center, should notify their college dean's office by Friday (12/4). On commencement day, participating faculty should proceed through the Schottenstein Center concourse to Section 101. Take the elevator directly across from Section 101 down to the arena level where faculty will robe and assemble for the processional. Institutional Research Seed Grants available
The OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center is offering American Cancer Society-supported seed grants of up to $30,000 to independent junior faculty and their equivalent for the initiation of cancer research projects so they can obtain preliminary results that will enable them to compete successfully for national research grants. Office for Disability Services Thanksgiving holiday hours
The Office for Disability Services will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday (11/25) due to the holiday break. On Monday (11/30), the office will resume regular hours of 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday. Contact: 292-3307

Today: U.S. Census Bureau director to address Faculty Club gathering
Robert M. Groves, director, U.S. Census Bureau will deliver "An Overview of the 2010 Decennial Census" from 1:30-2:30 p.m. today (11/23) at the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. President Gee will introduce Groves, who will speak briefly about the upcoming census, then take questions from the audience. The reception is open to the community, and is presented by the Initiative in Population Research and the John Glenn School of Public Affairs. Light refreshments will be served. O-H-I-O debuts on Big Ten Network Nov. 24
O-H-I-O will air on the Big Ten Network at 9 a.m. Tuesday (11/24). Produced by WOSU Public Media, the episode will feature Ohio State’s solar decathlon team as it travels to the National Mall in Washington, D.C.; engineering students' streamlined hydrogen fuel cell breaking the speed record for electric vehicles; and monitoring and reducing Ohio State’s carbon footprint through the Scarlet, Grey, and Green program. Free program on saving home energy Dec. 3 in Wooster
Allen Zimmerman of Ohio State ATI, an associate degree-granting program within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, and construction management students from the school will present “Saving Home Energy: First the Facts and Then the Audit” from 7-9 p.m. Thursday (12/3) in the Local Roots building, 140 S. Walnut St., in Wooster. Admission is free and open to the public. The program will look at practical, affordable ways to save money, energy and the environment. Read more:
