OSU Extension offers farm financial tips, management info

With low crop prices and higher input costs, many farmers, producers and farm business owners may be faced with having to make hard financial choices to stem potential losses and lessen financial stress. To help farmers, producers and farm business owners who want to gain insight into improving financial management, Ohio State University Extension is offering a free, four-part webinar series on managing risk and financial management.

Faculty autumn commencement information

Faculty members planning to march in the academic processional at autumn commencement on Sunday (12/20) at the Schottenstein Center should notify their college or regional dean’s office by Friday (12/4). On commencement day, faculty registered to participate should arrive by 1:30 p.m. to robe and assemble. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

Ohio State takes on Michigan for men's soccer championship

Ohio State’s #23 ranked men’s soccer program will play for the Big Ten regular season championship today (11/4) 7 p.m. against third-place Michigan at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. As always, admission and parking is free for all fans. In addition, those attending can purchase hotdogs for $1.

WOSU Public Media hosts free community conversation

WOSU Public Media’s Next Avenue CBus initiative is hosting a community conversation on Thursday (11/5) 5:30 p.m. at WOSU@COSI. The topic is “Shifting Gears: New Paths After 50” and the discussion will be led by panelists who have all made a significant pivot in their personal and professional lives after the age of 50. Ann Fisher, host of “All Sides with Ann Fisher” on 89.7 NPR News will moderate the conversation. The event is free and open to the public.

Colloquium: Nature, Morality and Law in the Anthropocene

Professors of law Sarah Krakoff (Colorado) and Jedediah Purdy (Duke) will discuss the implications of the anthropocene era for law and morality on Thursday (11/5) 4-6 p.m. in the Moritz College of Law’s Saxbe Auditorium. The Sustainable and Resilient Economy Discovery Theme Focus Area will host world-renowned economist Ed Barbier for an invited lecture, “Nature and Wealth: Overcoming Environmental Scarcity and Inequality” on Friday (11/6) 11:30 a.m. in E100 Smith Laboratory. Barbier is author of Nature and Wealth and a professor of economics at the University of Wyoming.

The 2018/2019 Farm Bill: An Early Assessment

The Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics is hosting “The 2018/2019 Farm Bill: An Early Assessment” as part of its Autumn 2015 Applied Economics Seminar Series on Friday (11/6) with a presentation from Carl Zulaf, AEDE Professor Emeritus. OSC to host Statewide Users Group meeting

OSC, located on Ohio State’s west campus, is hosting its Statewide Users Group meeting on Thursday (12/3) 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. The meeting will highlight new scientific developments produced using OSC resources, foster connections between OSC staff and the public, and obtain feedback for the future of OSC and its role in supporting science across Ohio. There will be flash-talk and poster sessions; participants and winners will receive computing hours on our systems.
