Ya Vienen Los Muertos (Here Come the Dead)

Ya Vienen Los Muertos is a cultural representation of Dia de los Muertos, which commemorates the lives of the dearly departed with a unique celebration. Join in and celebrate on Saturday (11/5) by coming to a "Perspective Speaker Series" presentation, joining us at the Gateway for a viewing of The Book of Life, an altar presentation and more. Busing is provided from Westland Library and the Michoacana on Morse Road at 10 a.m. and returns from Hagerty Hall at 4 p.m.

Center, Latin American Studies awarded Fulbright-Hays grant

The Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) program in the U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $90,859 grant to the Center for Latin American Studies for a seminar project for K-12 educators, titled “Teaching the Andes: Redefining the Common Good and Reclaiming the Public Square.” Ultimately, the goal of the project is to equip teachers with multidisciplinary content, curricular resources and methods of inquiry to deploy in their classrooms that use an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and studying the region.

Cooling-to-heating transition, warmer temps this week

The cooling-to-heating transition has begun and can lead to buildings being too hot or too cold, especially when weather variations cause unanticipated fluctuations to interior temperatures. As warmer temperatures are expected this week, building occupants should anticipate buildings to be warmer than normal. We anticipate a higher than usual number of requests this week, but ask that customers continue to use the standard request channels through Service2Facilities. Facilities Operations and Development appreciates your patience as it performs these necessary tasks.

The CCTS invites you to apply to attend our K to R grant-writing workshop January to May 2017. Up to 10 junior investigators will be selected for the structured, interactive program to facilitate preparation of an initial R01 grant.
