This year’s Zoom: Family Film Festival, Thursday (12/4)-Sunday (12/7) has a catchy new name for its fifth anniversary. Highlights of the weekend include the film Girls Rock! with a visit from local all-girls rock band the Mary Anns; Jump!, a film about professional jump roping followed by a demonstration with Tori Boggs and other competitive jump ropers; and the popular cereal and pajama party on Saturday morning. Today: Open forum for Arts and Sciences faculty and staff

An open forum to discuss the next executive dean and vice provost of arts and sciences will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. today (12/2) in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Led by search committee chair Steven Gabbe, the forum will provide an opportunity for arts and sciences colleagues to discuss the qualities that are most important in the next executive dean and vice provost of arts and sciences. Dentistry professors pursue the perfect smile

OSU dentistry professors Stephen Rosenstiel and Henry Fields recently conducted a research study featured in dentistry’s premier publication, the Journal of the American Dental Association. Using an innovative computer-based survey method, they studied the essential factors in an “esthetic” or attractive smile, and their research documents new information about survey participants’ perceptions of the characteristics that make up a truly “perfect” smile. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Winter quarter workshops for academic leaders

Academic Affairs and Human Resources are co-sponsoring five winter quarter workshops for deans, department chairs, school directors, and division heads. Dec. 9 info session for distance and open education innovation funding

Attend an information session for TELR's Distance and Open Education Innovation funding at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (12/9) in the Learning Collaboration Studio, 060 Science and Engineering Library. Deadline extension: Institutional research seed grants

The OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center is offering American Cancer Society-sponsored seed grants of up to $30,000 for 2009. The new application deadline is Monday (12/8). The award provides seed money to independent junior faculty and their equivalent, research scientists, for the initiation of cancer research projects to obtain preliminary results to compete successfully for national research grants. Have questions about using Carmen for your courses? Attend a Carmen workshop scheduled from Wednesday (12/10)-Thursday (1/15/09) at five locations on campus. Carmen experts are available following each workshop to provide individual help to participants and walk-ins. New workshop topics include Green Grading and User-Friendly Carmen Courses.
