Developing a Scarlet, Gray and Green campus

From increasingly energy efficient buildings to campus buses that run on biodiesel, evidence that the OSU campus is turning green is all around us. Aparna Dial, Ohio State's director of Energy Services and Sustainability, says the university is taking a "three-pronged approach" to greater energy efficiency: metering buildings to determine how much energy is being used, conducting energy audits during which the university replaces inefficient energy systems, and implementing environmentally friendly projects such as the football game day recycling program. ELT: Copyright, Fair Use and Rights Management with Learning Technologies

The December Exploring Learning Technologies meeting will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday (12/12) in 143 PAES. Representatives from a number of campus resources including OSU Libraries, Streaming Services, Media Manager, and Carmen will share and discuss guidelines and approaches for creating and distributing online instruction. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Nominations sought for Distinguished Service Awards

Nominations are due Monday (12/15) for the 2009 Distinguished Service Awards, established in 1952 to recognize individuals who have served Ohio State in truly outstanding fashion. Honorees will be approved by the Board of Trustees and notified in early spring. Awards will be presented at commencement ceremonies for spring, summer and autumn ’09, and winter ’10. Responsible Conduct of Research workshop Jan. 14

The Graduate School and the Office of Research are hosting a Responsible Conduct of Research workshop from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday (1/14/09) in Longaberger Alumni House. Free for faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, the workshop provides training in the nine core areas of instruction as mandated by NIH guidelines. Academic Enrichment Grant applications being accepted

Faculty and staff are asked to encourage students to apply for Undergraduate Student Government's Academic Enrichment Grants by Friday (1/30/09). Undergraduates from all majors are eligible for awards of $500 to be used for research, creative work, professional development activities, conferences and more. Applications are available online. Continuing Education’s Designing for Print moves to new time

Continuing Education is offering Designing for Print at a new time, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday (12/10) in Mount Hall on West Campus. The two-day noncredit course is an introduction to basic design concepts and print production issues created for individuals with little to no experience in graphic design but who may be responsible professionally or personally for producing newsletters, brochures, etc. Contact: 292-8571. Learning Collaboration Studio provides technology-rich classroom

The Learning Collaboration Studio (SEL 060) provides a flexible, technology-rich classroom environment including projection, 30 laptops, three walls of whiteboards and reconfigurable seating. It is available for meetings, training sessions and undergraduate and graduate level classes and may be reserved for one session or an entire course.
